Torquay is a charming English Riviera town “ quaint “ if you are Agatha Christie fan you will fall in love with it . The views from the Clif gardens above the sea is so calming and takes you to good place in your mind. The atmosphere so relaxing unthreatening so safe friendly people . The food was good . And you can spend days relaxing by sea swimming sea activities traveling to near by attractions . And the weather was perfect during my visit . The nature and trees mix of English typical and of tropical trees so healthy and thriving you forget you are in uk costal town . Torquay is so beautiful like a soothing music

Torquay was a great Base. Was last here 20 years ago.

Torquay was a great Base. Was last here 20 years ago. Beach is OK, next door in Paignton has better beachfront. Town centre not great but nice places to visit if you travel. Cockington Country Park, Paignton, Brixham. Buckfast Abbey is a bigger distance to travel but well worth it. Eating out varies in price.

I visited Torquay (pronounced, unexpectedly tor-KEY) for a quite personal reason. It was hosting the International Agatha Christie Festival. I am now a middle aged physician, but when I was 15, her crime novels helped to improve my English, and opened doors for me in the USA, where I now work, and, I say this modestly, I thrive. My visit was my way to thank Agatha Christie for providing me with a language I love, Surely, we will visit for the 2025 festival once more. and get to know the "English Riviera" a bit more amply.

Torquay is like many seaside resorts.

Torquay is like many seaside resorts. There are establishments which are thriving, and many others that are in regression or have closed. The businesses down by the harbour seem to be doing ok, but as you walk further through town you will note that many of the shops are closed/empty and there are more than a few down and outs/drug users. Torquay really needs some investment in the town centre to bring it back to life. Wetherspoons seems to do a roaring trade mainly because some of the other bars charge as much as £9 for a 250ml glass of wine. There is a good selection of restaurants and the ones we visited all served delicious food. If you enjoy walking, Torquay is a good challenge with a quite hilly terrain - take a walk to Cockington park and enjoy a little history.

A nice place to visit. A good variety of places to eat and drink. Good weather is important. Flat along the front but be aware of the surrounding hills if you are of limited mobility although taxis are available for a reasonable price.

Thank you for an amazing holiday. the imperial was an ideal base to explore the area. fantastic location with beautiful views which the hotel makes the most of. the public rooms are beautiful and well spaced out. my room with balcony offered the perfect space to relax and watch the sea and weather roll by. food was delicious. the decision to limit the evening menu to 3 choices per course meant that real care and attention was spent on what was served up and I can honestly say I really enjoyed every meal. staff were friendly and helpful.

The staff really are amazing at the Grand, it was our second stay within two weeks, and they were equally as friendly and accommodating as the first stay. The Hotel itself is a lovely old building with plenty of beauty, charm, and character. The food was very good at the restaurant also. It would be the only Hotel I’d stay in when visiting Torquay, but I’m moving there so I doubt I need to use the Hotel, although I would certainly make sure my guests booked the Grand when they visit.

This hotel is in the best part of Torquay. It's a quiet area with free on road parking nearby. It's close to a bus route. It's close to several small shopping areas. Some parts close or adjust their opening hours over winter. The hotel was warm and their bar is a comfy pleasant area. Standard of coffee in this hotel is ok.
