Knoll House, hotel in Studland

Knoll House is a hotel in Studland that boasts a seasonal outdoor swimming pool and tennis court. Some rooms include a sea view and access to a hot tub.

Quirky old place that i've always wanted to stay at when passing by. Has a very particular clientele of slightly aloof mainly older folk who like to a bit of exclusivity and grandeur but can't quite afford the actual stuff. Stayed with a friend after a walk in Purbeck that got waylayed by a few drinks in Swanage. So stayed here, and why not. The room was good, if a little old-fashioned. Actually it was a family room comprising two connected rooms with separate bathrooms, so we lucked out probably. There's a great little bar with bar billiards, which is something you rarely see these days. The main lobby/corridor has some quirky collections in cabinets, and a giant armchair. The restaurant/breakfast room is huge. Many rooms have a sea view.

Pluses - It's well placed with plenty of free on site parking and a pleasant, easy drive through country lanes to Corfe or Swanage. It's easy to find and quiet. Breakfast was excellent. I picked it because an evening meal would be available and we've been caught out elsewhere before with everything booked up. The weather meant that eating in looked the best option but it was pricey and we should have looked at the small print re service charges and just the general costs of things as the bill was an 'ouch'. We weren't the only ones in the checking out queue with that sentiment. I'd definitely consider staying again but would eat out elsewhere in the evening and on that basis, other places that don't offer a restaurant will look competitive now.

Excellent location for the National Trust beach.

Excellent location for the National Trust beach. Short drive to Swanage, Corfe Castle and the ferry to Poole and Bournemouth. Excellent countryside location. We ate in the hotel as there's nothing in the vacinity that doesn't need a car journey.

Studland is a beautiful village and I would like to return to explore more of the area. We ate at The Pig hotel in Studland which was very nice but a little overpriced for what we had. We went to Shell Bay restaurant which is right by the Ferry at Studland and the food and service was exceptional and very good value. It is a seafood restaurant and the ingredients were fresh and delicious. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you are a fish lover.

We enjoyed walking along Knoll Beach and using the excellent cafe there. The minor road was surprisingly busy, but then we realised there was a ferry at the end of the road! Take care when crossing the road to the beach. There is good bird watching a short drive away at RSPB Arne.

Studland is beautiful with lovely beaches, and walks. Great place for those of us who don't want loud funfairs, noisy pubs or arcades! The village pub (Bankes Arms) serves good sized meals at reasonable prices.
