Who'd A Thought It, hotel in Staplehurst

Situated just 5 minutes’ drive from Lenham, Who'd A Thought It boasts a Champagne and oyster bar, along with free Wi-Fi in public areas.

Had to leave after one night due to a family crisis - couldn’t wait for a 9.30 breakfast. Would NEVER have booked if I’d known B’fast would be that late. The receptionist was very good & kind. Room was so limited - surrounding grounds were very good & I appreciated them.

Offering garden views, Wilderness B&B 3 Self Contained Rooms Nr Sissinghurst is an accommodation located in Headcorn, 16 km from Leeds Castle and 34 km from Chatham Train Station.

So peaceful, just the sounds of birds, sheep and the occasional cow. Lovely comfortable accommodation with a big bed and a modern shower room. The breakfast hamper was great and filled us up for our trip to Sissinghurst. We were looking for a little bit of relaxation and that’s exactly what we found. Really thorough and helpful comms from the owner who was welcoming and friendly when we arrived.

Good traditional pub in a very quiet position with 3 good quality motel type rooms set at the rear of the grounds, each with its own front door and patio with tables and chairs. (A little more could be made of this area, some colourful planting etc). Large beer garden area to the rear of the pub. Staff were very welcoming and the menu choice for evening meal was good. Good size separate restaurant room which we were told was having some upgrade later this year. Pleasant view from here over the grassed beer garden area. Note we arrived on a Tuesday and told no food Monday and Tuesday evening but staff immediately gave a couple of good recommendations 10 minutes drive away. Very good position to visit two famous gardens, Gt Dixter and Sissinghurst, 30 and 15 minutes away.

I was there to attend a funeral just before the Winter Solstice, not on holiday on this occasion. I enjoyed a previous visit there. It is a very small country town surrounded by the Kent countryside, with dark, winding country lanes, oast houses, orchards and fields of sheep. There is a small railway station, often unmanned, but as a non-driver, I was dependent on friends and the manager of the hotel for car transport and to find my way around. On my previous visit I enjoyed visiting nearby National Trust properties and a garden centre with cafe in the town.

I grew up here but now there is only one pub where there used to be five. Also there is no accommodation available at all in the village. So all in all there's not really much scope for tourism here.

Staplehurst is a typical Kent village with history and a mix of residential and attractive rural properties. There are some lovely walks around the area. It is not far to drive to Tenterden with its impressive high street or to other villages like Cranbrook with historic pubs. Staplehurst has a good Sainsbury's for grocery shopping and a train station to commute to London.

Very friendly staff and excellent food served in the inn. The room was just what we needed for an overnight stay before going on to Rye. Bed was very comfortable and room was extremely clean and recently refurbished. All the staff made our dog feel very welcome too. Great value for money too.

Comfortable atmosphere with excellent outdoor facilities if needed. Well cooked and presented food with reasonably priced drinks. I would like to mention the friendliness of not only the staff at the hotel but of all the people we met during our stay.
