We enjoyed being located in the historic Cathedral Close, which is still locked overnight (against the outside world!) Reception welcome was good, and we preferred the educational surroundings to the more usual commercial "frills". We were very happy to have no TV or radio - therefore spared endless politics. Breakfast - in a bright roomy refectory - was excellent, with one exception...

The city is busy with a nice atmosphere. There are lots of shops and eateries. We tried the Mexican, "Tinga", which was really good. The Cathedral is well worth a visit, to see the scale of it as well as the Magna Carta. We also visited Arundells, Ted Heath's former home, which was really interesting.

Salisbury is a very good location for a holiday in the UK.
Salisbury is a very good location for a holiday in the UK. Within the immediate area of the city there is an impressive cathedral (which houses a copy of Magna Carta) and the ruins of Old Sarum. A little further afield, there is the famous Stonehenge World Heritage Site which is very much worth a visit.
The city itself is easy to get around - much of it is walkable and there is a good bus service.
Due to its rail links, Salisbury can also be used as a base for exploring the wider area. Regular trains run to locations throughout Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire.

St Thomas Becketts Church was a wonderful surprise with the late 15thc paintings.
The walking tour of Salisbury with a registered guide was excellent and i would definitely recommend it.
The docents in the cathedral were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. More importantly you could ask any question of them and they would endeavour to answer it.

It is a town full of interest - museums, The Cathedral and close, Montpesson House and many more. It has a wide range of shops, cafes and interesting old buildings, full of history. It is easy to walk round. We especially enjoy Elizabeth Gardens and the water meadows to Harnham.
The centre is so busy, best taken in small doses. The market square is important to see, especially on market day - and a new department store.

Everthing is within walking distance shops, cathedral etc and there are plenty of places to eat. Furthermore, as this is an old medieval town there are lots of pubs ! so plenty of choice of breweries and food ! Its also based on a grid system so very easy to navigate your way around.
We did find that the independant shops, market etc are NOT open on Sundays so if you are coming for shopping make sure you come Monday to Saturday or you will be disappointed !
Our host said when the sun shines Salisbury is the best place to be and with a choice of over 5 rivers you could walk along bathed in sunshine I would agree !

Beautiful city. Amazing old streets and buildings.
Beautiful city. Amazing old streets and buildings. Small enough to explore on foot. Plenty of places to enjoy food and drink. The Cathedral is stunning. Plenty of independent shops. Nice green open spaces. Lovely for a couple of days.
Beautiful pub in the city centre (close to market square and cathedral) with excellent breakfast and very delicious, very tasty dinner meals! Room (3-bed room) was extremely spacious including a huge bathroom (bigger than a standard hotel room) with bathtube and seperate shower. very friendly staff. Much better than expected! We really enjoyed it.
The size of the room was really large and being in the main part of the hotel it was nice and easy to get to and from the reception, bar and restaurant. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was gorgeous - large, smashing bath and good shower. All the staff were friendly and we had relaxing massages in the spa.
Great position by a river with a wonderful view of the cathedral - though it’s probably obscured by the trees in summer. Easy walk into town. Plenty of free parking, friendly staff and good breakfast. The room was in the newer part of the hotel and was spacious, clean and comfortable but somewhat dated.
Pear tree Hotel is the perfect location for a base in Salisbury. Close to all the city centre amenities and perfect for train station. Car parking was good, facilities were clean, with food on arrival a bonus. Staff were excellent with help for printing documents and advice on eating out etc
We stayed here on the way back from Stonehenge.
It was a wonderful hotel in a very spacious and beautifully maintained area. There were ponies and cows on the grounds, which the small children loved. For dinner, we went to a pub recommended by the owner. I would definitely stay here again.
We booked room only and the room has just been refurbished and was in excellent condition. The location was perfect for our needs being near the center of town. The rest of the hotel is still being refurbished so that was fine with us as we were out and about locally.
A charming old hotel with traditional tastefully decorated rooms. We got upgraded to a spacious king room, with Nespresso machine, decent Wi-Fi and a bathroom with walk in shower. Restaurant was first rate, with exceptional steaks and good freshly cooked breakfast.
Spacious room with riverside view. Comfortable bed, controllable room heating. Whole hotel nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. Excellent breakfast.
Free taxi service provided to/from Salisbury with a very helpful and cheerful lady driver.
Amazing!! We love our stay! The room was comfortable and the staff super friendly. Charlie gave us a lot of good recommendations. The hotel is very close to one of the Stonehenge bus stops, supermarkets and the main square of Salisbury.
Bed was super comfortable and spacious. Bed was excellent. Helen, our host, was super friendly and directed us to an excellent restaurant off the beaten path. Loved that it was close to but out of the chaos of Salisbury.
Welcome at reception. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel itself is set back from the road in a quaint courtyard, so despite being in the city centre you’re just a couple of steps away from tranquility.
The room was very comfortable and the breakfast was good. Close proximity of the old Mill Hotel was ideal for eating in the evenings. A nice quiet location within easy reach, via a pleasant walk, of the city centre.
Great location, just a short walk from the city centre and attractions. The hotel is full of character and really comfortable. the staff were friendly and helpful.
