Low Wood Bay, hotel in Rydal

In a most spectacular location on the shores of England’s longest lake, Windermere, Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa is the Lake District’s first resort offering a number of facilities.

I booked Low Wood as I was there for afternoon tea and spa day I a few weeks ago. I did think that the spa would of been included however this was additional 65 per person.

The Wordsworth Hotel, hotel in Rydal

In the heart of Grasmere and surrounded by the towering mountains of the Lake District, the historic 4-star Wordsworth Hotel is set in riverside gardens and has an award-winning restaurant.

Excellent hotel, well situated within the small village providing an excellent base for trips out around the area. The hotel and all their staff were very accommodating at meeting my additional request and in fact exceeded them far beyond what I had hoped for. Lovely experience for our two night stay highly recommend.

The location was perfect were the staff apart from one bar man, he was the shorter of two (on duty 20/6/24). He was extremely rude no interaction except for telling you the cost, no please or thank you from him. I complained about him and was told that he has had bad week due to car problems, Boo Hoo. He should not be in the hospitality trade.

The accommodation did not match our expectations based on the pictures and past reviews on booking.com. The public rooms ( lounge, library) were abysmal, with cat litter tray, damp, lack of carpets, grubby furniture etc. Then the bedrooms ( 4 in total) either showers didn’t work or had damp. Breakfast ok but shambolic- getting a pot of breakfast tea was a feat and the coffee non drinkable. All in all diabolical for the price paid (£270/room/ 2 nights). We have stayed in many places in the Lake District and can honestly say this was our worst experience.

Cabin 3 at Rydal is not a 4 star Hotel but an off grid cabin in the Hills, its a fairly strenuous walk from the car park and has no electric or running water but it is in our opinion PERFECT!!! Don't book it if you like all the creature comforts but book it if you like getting back to nature. Absolutely Awesome place. The toilets/showers are always clean and tidy,if you have a low/wide sporty car you will hate the entrance road as it is very rough, the view from Cabin 3 is also Beautiful, a really relaxing place. Roll on next year!!

The room we booked, a superior double' and a single were not the ones we were given and when we complained we were told they were all the same. There was no ''mountain view'' that we were promised, in fact you could only see out of the window if you stood on a chair. The bathroom was minute and you could hardly turn round in it. The bed and duvet etc were nowhere near as good as the photos on website. We were completely mis sold these rooms. The breakfast was just ok but the hot food and drinks were tepid at best, the croissants were hard, The hotel closes down at 9pm and you need a password to get in and the bar was self service after 9pm. No tv in rooms and if you go into the lounge to watch you are warned to turn sound down to cater to those who read in there. We feel that potential customers should be aware of these restrictions.

The views and walks we’re amazed, downside to the property is solar lighting, we had no lights for a day as battery’s needed changing, would be better if you could drive upto cabin 3 as the Treck up the hill was horrible, also would benefit from some sort of lighting leading up to cabins. No electricity

Kind of disappointed as the hut was smaller than expected, feel like it should of stated about solar power and give instructions about usage. Lights constantly going out was a bit poor. A non communicative owner who didn’t respond to emails unless money was involved. A shame really; wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Very pricy and completely not worth the money we paid

The whole friendliness and ambiance of the place exceeded expectations. The building and formal gardens are exquisite. The buffet format for the meals is deceptive as the quality of the food is excellent (both hot and cold), the selection is wonderful. The grounds have numerous points of interest. It is located a few miles West of Ambleside and a world away from crowded locations. If I ever return to the Lake District there is only one place I would like to stay. I have video clips of the place but nowhere to add them?
