Great location just under Penshaw Monument, in the middle of the countryside. Very good facilities in the property and very well laid out. Owner even set up a Xmas tree and lights for our stay - a lovely touch. We also made use of the cafe next door - they make an excellent cooked breakfast in the morning.

We knew abought Houghton le Spring already.

We knew abought Houghton le Spring already. We needed to be in Stanley, Durham, and East & West Rainton so hotel was ideally situated. We used the in-house Restaurants & Bar on 3 nights and the Italian Restaurant across the road ! night.. There are bus routes outside the Hotel - I believe maximum fare of £2.00.

Very central for Durham City and surrounding areas.

Very central for Durham City and surrounding areas. Large free car park which was easy to manouvere. Hotel was lovely, rooms were large and well stocked with toileteries, hairdryer, iron on request which was brought swiftly to our room. The adjoining bar was well stocked with lots of different beers/lagers, wines etc. Food was available in either the bar or the Thai Resturant. Staff are very friendly very helpful, nothing was any trouble to them. Would not hesitate to return.

Set by the side of a busy country road in beautiful countryside close to the A1(M). Fabulous beer garden, plenty of parking and large restaurant. We stayed in a beautifully appointed room but unfortunately this was at the front of the hotel and the traffic was busy. To be fair, if we hadn't needed the window open so wide due to the warm evening then this would not have been a problem to us.

the hotel was ideally located for where my son and i were visiting and not far from the metro shopping centre. even though our room looked on to the A1 it was not that noisy. rooms were spotless and had tea and coffee facilities and also information book of local attractions near by which was very useful for us as visitors

I'm disabled and the Hotel catered very well for me. The whole area is a pleasure to drive around and the people are so friendly and helpful. We always ate in the Hotel, the food is SO good. The only thing to avoid is make sure your stay is long enough!

Now 53, I lived in Houghton le Spring for the first 22 years of my life, with many family and friends still living there. I can honestly say there is nothing for anyone in Houghton unless you are visiting friends or family. It's difficult to sum up a place in a few words, but with the single ATM in the town centre not working when we were there, most food outlets having a hand-scribbled note on the windows reading "Cash Only", and all closed shops on a night feeling the need to have steel shutters, sums it up for me. There are still lots of lovely people living in the town, but I really couldn't recommend it to anyone that doesn't NEED to visit!

Very friendly staff. Cooked breakfast was good, although the self-service element, i.e. tea, coffee, toast, cereal, was just adequate... plastic bagged croissant, no butter (just Flora), black floaters in the hot water (my wife drinks hot water, so not hidden by the tea bags it was meant for), etc. could have been better. The hotel on the face of it is clean and tidy, so long as you don't look too closely, i.e. at the bathroom ceiling extractors or move the bed.

originally confused this hotel with another of the same name. What a fantastic bonus! The rooms are lovely, facilities fantastic, food is exceptional, nothing is too much trouble for Daryl and his staff and the locals are friendly & welcoming. The only bad thing i can say is that they're obviously too good because they're fully booked up on my next trip. Gutted!

Fantastic hotel, spotless clean, very accommodating, I required my twin room be changed to a double, no problem at all, breakfast freshly cooked to order, lots of things to do locally for adults and children. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Oh and the food in the attached restaurant was fantastic.

This is a very good hotel and superb value for money, way, way better than other travel chain type hotels that would be considered as there competitors. Very good Thai restaurant too which was a very pleasant surprise and delicious.
