Great location just under Penshaw Monument, in the middle of the countryside. Very good facilities in the property and very well laid out. Owner even set up a Xmas tree and lights for our stay - a lovely touch. We also made use of the cafe next door - they make an excellent cooked breakfast in the morning.
The hotel is just off junction 64 of the A1(M), less than 12 miles from Newcastle, Sunderland and Durham. It has free parking, a restaurant, a lounge bar and air-conditioned rooms.
This hotel offers free Wi-Fi, and is just off the A1 motorway next door to the Bannatyne Health Club.

The parking and the close proximity to the cricket ground. Also the two young people working in the bar were very helpful and friendly.

We knew abought Houghton le Spring already. We needed to be in Stanley, Durham, and East & West Rainton so hotel was ideally situated.
We used the in-house Restaurants & Bar on 3 nights and the Italian Restaurant across the road ! night..
There are bus routes outside the Hotel - I believe maximum fare of £2.00.

Very central for Durham City and surrounding areas.
Very central for Durham City and surrounding areas. Large free car park which was easy to manouvere. Hotel was lovely, rooms were large and well stocked with toileteries, hairdryer, iron on request which was brought swiftly to our room. The adjoining bar was well stocked with lots of different beers/lagers, wines etc. Food was available in either the bar or the Thai Resturant. Staff are very friendly very helpful, nothing was any trouble to them. Would not hesitate to return.

Set by the side of a busy country road in beautiful countryside close to the A1(M). Fabulous beer garden, plenty of parking and large restaurant.
We stayed in a beautifully appointed room but unfortunately this was at the front of the hotel and the traffic was busy. To be fair, if we hadn't needed the window open so wide due to the warm evening then this would not have been a problem to us.

the hotel was ideally located for where my son and i were visiting and not far from the metro shopping centre. even though our room looked on to the A1 it was not that noisy. rooms were spotless and had tea and coffee facilities and also information book of local attractions near by which was very useful for us as visitors

We always ate in the Hotel, the food is SO good.
The only thing to avoid is make sure your stay is long enough!

Now 53, I lived in Houghton le Spring for the first 22 years of my life, with many family and friends still living there. I can honestly say there is nothing for anyone in Houghton unless you are visiting friends or family. It's difficult to sum up a place in a few words, but with the single ATM in the town centre not working when we were there, most food outlets having a hand-scribbled note on the windows reading "Cash Only", and all closed shops on a night feeling the need to have steel shutters, sums it up for me. There are still lots of lovely people living in the town, but I really couldn't recommend it to anyone that doesn't NEED to visit!

originally confused this hotel with another of the same name. What a fantastic bonus! The rooms are lovely, facilities fantastic, food is exceptional, nothing is too much trouble for Daryl and his staff and the locals are friendly & welcoming. The only bad thing i can say is that they're obviously too good because they're fully booked up on my next trip. Gutted!
Newly refurbished rooms above the hotel have been completed to a very high standard. We were greeted by Amy who took us to our room. She was friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and clean and we enjoyed our stay. Breakfast in the morning was excellent.
Everything was great . The staff the room.the bar food . There was a lovely mature lady at breakfast time was excellent and made our stay lovely .I would recommend the Hotel and would always come back when we come to Newcastle to c my Partners Family .
Remarkably quiet given easy access to major nearby roads. It's a hotel of two facades, each pleasing. Amazing views on one facade, quiet and sleepy on the other. Highly recommend
