Littlewood Cabin, hotel in Hatherleigh

Featuring garden views, Littlewood Cabin features accommodation with a garden, a terrace and barbecue facilities, around 24 km from Lydford Castle.

Great location for a one night stop-over when doing the Devon Coast to Coast Cycleway. Exactly half way. Much better staying here, with the whole cabin, rather than booking a room at The George. Suited us brilliantly.

The George Inn, hotel in Hatherleigh

Set in Hatherleigh and with Lydford Castle reachable within 24 km, The George Inn offers a restaurant, non-smoking rooms, free WiFi and a bar.

The room and breakfast were excellent. We had bikes to store safely which they provided. Staff were very helpful. I am vegan and notified the hotel in advance, as well as speaking to a member of staff in the evening to remind them. I was provided with a vegan fried breakfast which was excellent. But there was no provision of non dairy milk (soya/oat) for cereal or coffee.

We didn't go to site see we went to pick up a second hand very specialised mobility scooter. The reason the trip down was too long is that we now have our first electric car, but stopping every 100 miles with a wait averaging 1 hour for each stop, it was very drawn out. We missed getting to our pre booked accommodation as we didnt get there untill 11.30, it was all locked up and lights off and it was too late to find a travel lodge all receptions had closed for the night. We had to find accomodation for our 2 dogs as well as us so we had to sleep in the car over night and in mid November it was bitterly cold and damp. The next day we got going for the scooter and hit a pot hole at 9am, we rang the RAC they didn't get to us until 3.30 in the afternoon, only to be told the tyre had a side wall split so needed a new tyre.Graig from the RAC could not do enough for us he rang round to find anyone with the correct tyre, this came from a local mobile tyre fitter who arrived 90 minuets later. We was supposed to be heading home this day but with a 12 hour journey we rang the hotel that we missed the night before and they honoured our day we missed and put us up on the second night with no extra payment so a big thank you to the George in Hatherleigh for being so accomodating. Thank you so much to a very very long couple of days.

Very quirky hilly town (the smallest town in Devon).

Very quirky hilly town (the smallest town in Devon). Many of the buildings were original cob and thatch. Great community market on Tuesday morning, though original cattle market has now closed. A couple of pubs, fish and chips and cafe. Co-op for supplies and money, along with Post Office and other shops. Church has very pleasant chimes on hour and quarters. Fast flowing river at bottom of town near Architectural salvage and fire station. Lovely walks around the town and over the common (too wet when we were there)

Great place and location for what we wanted sadly the new years band cancelled last minute but the manager didn't replace with any music through a defective speaker system. This should have been tested before hand just in case. Therefore celebrating new year was somewhat flat.
