The Wordsworth Hotel, hotel in Grasmere

In the heart of Grasmere and surrounded by the towering mountains of the Lake District, the historic 4-star Wordsworth Hotel is set in riverside gardens and has an award-winning restaurant.

Our accommodation was very good. Although we had to wait longer than expected.v no swimming pool. No fine dining. No residents bar. A shame. Completely different from last year when we looked over the hotel. The food was too run of the mill. Eat lunch time same menu in evening. Got told off for wanting to look at the residents bar that was closed. There seemed to be a lack of resources. To offer a drinks voucher instead of having your room cleaned each morning, would seem to be the sign of resourcing problem. Having said all of this the Manager did his very best. Breakfast was excellent. The Lakes are our favourite holiday destination. But we would think twice about going back to the Wordswirth , such a shame as we had planned to make it an annual pilgrimage. l

Bridge House Hotel & Silver Howe View Cottage, hotel in Grasmere

The extensively-refurbished Bridge House Hotel is set in Grasmere, directly across from St Oswalds Church and the graveyard where William Wordsworth rests.

Location was quiet but close to centre of beautiful Grasmere village. Some great hikes within walking distance. Staff were really friendly. We made use of the pool and sauna in the sister hotel which were both great. Bed was huge and comfy and rooms were well decorated and furnished. We’ll be back 😊

I have visited and stayed in the Lake District hundreds of times over the years and still the scenery is the redreaming feature and by far the bonus. Sadly on this occasion, I thought the villages, especially the smaller (Coniston, Hawkeshead etc) were looking tired and unwelcoming. I will be back, but will not be staying in the centres from now on. On the upside however, there is some fantastic restaurants and eateries around the area.

The village and surrounding area was a joy, it gave us a very pleasant tranquil feeling from the moment we arrived. The views of the crags were awesome as they were from their summit,s. The food was amazing at Baldrys café/ tea room as was the service and staff, went there four days on the trot after our first visit. Already looking forward to returning later this year.

Grasmere is quaint and beautifully proportioned as a village, retaining its charm with privately owned unique shops. My stay at Victorian House was perfect. Beautiful decor. The staff are very helpful and friendly. It was my first stay and my room was upgraded. I will definitely stay again.

This is a small village in picturesque surroundings.

This is a small village in picturesque surroundings. There is a very good bus service which makes it easy to avoid taking the car with the problem of parking. Keswick, Ambleside and Windermere all easy to reach by bus.

Grasmere is full of lovely walks, you don't have to wander far to be in a super stunning surrounding. The walk around the lake is a pretty easy one to follow mainly flat and has a direct path so hard to get lost, but theres definitely opportunities to wander further a field, up into the hills, or over to the caves also from here. The lake is also a great place to paddle board or boat around, it's large enough and not too busy. We absolutely loved Mathilde's Café at the Heaton Cooper Studio, the food was just delicious and such a pretty shop, great little seating spot outside providing blankets for al fresco dining. Sam Read Bookshop was also worth a look, there are a number of really lovely shops aside from all the main tourist hot spots in Grasmere. We also enjoyed a drink at Tweedies bar which had a lovely atmosphere and be a great place in the summer as it had a lovely beer garden setting to sit outside.

A few stand out positives: - Friendliest staff I've ever met at a hotel - Allocated parking to each room is a nice touch - Lovely location, perfect for Grasmere (in the middle of town) - Clean and tidy hotel - Room had a nice selection of water, tea and coffee, which I've noticed not all do since COVID - Fantastic shower and with rainfall head and lots of pressure - Free cream tea at midday is a real nice addition - Amazing breakfast - Relaxed adult atmosphere throughout my stay - Rooms were nice, warm and quiet.

Victorian House Hotel was honestly one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. Our room was clean, cozy, and so thoughtfully and wonderfully decorated. The complimentary breakfast was so nice as well, like genuinely delicious and filling, and it added so much value to what we paid per night. They also offer yummy complimentary soup every night, which we definitely took advantage of in their charming dining area. I couldn't speak more highly of our stay or recommend this place enough!

The location of this stylish, historical hotel was excellent, providing us perfect opportunity to walk around grasmere and enjoy the local sights and wares. The rooms were upgraded on our arrival and were extremely well presented. Our evening meal was delightful and the atmosphere in the attached bar was jovial and welcoming. Breakfast was served promptly the next morning, and there was a good selection of both continental and hot options.

Lovely historic, cosy country inn. The hotel is located close to Grasmere, about a mile away, on the main road between Ambleside and Keswick. We had a meal in the restaurant and the food was delicious. Our room was comfortable with a good sized bathroom and rainfall shower. The walls are quite thin so this is something to be aware of but we still had a good night's sleep. Definitely would stay again.

The lovely large room with views of the surrounding fells from both the front and back windows. The separate sitting room area. The decor - Quality fittings and Retro touches whilst maintaining the character. Great shower - bathrobes supplied. Enjoyed the breakfast with vegetarian options. Just a very short walk into Grasmere centre. Many Thanks to Mike and his Mum.
