I chose the New Bath Hotel and Spa because of its unique spring water outdoor pool. Although it was a bit cold (19C) I managed a couple of decent swims and our room overlooked the pool so we were able to watch other swimmers doing their laps, which was strangely relaxing. It was a truly memorable feature of our stay. The room itself was large, clean and quiet with a huge, comfortable bed and a small private balcony. Breakfast was very good, with a wide range of hot food (a la carte on weekdays, buffet at the weekend), cereals, bread, crumpets, delicious homemade pastries, cheese and fruit etc. We also ate at the hotel restaurant one night, which was pleasant but unremarkable. Overall, this was a great base for exploring the Peak District by car - it has plenty of parking - with many stunning sights and walks within easy reach, including Dovedale and the River Dove, Chee Dale, the River Derwent and Cromford Mills. There are also a couple of very good restaurants within easy walking distance in Matlock Bath.
Where modern heritage meets a warm Derbyshire welcome. Oakhill is a beautiful Grade 2 Listed (Georgian style) house built by the Arkwright family in the mid 19th century, as a private family dwelling....

Great for a short stay if you are visiting the area. Location was perfect as we were there for a hiking weekend, but if you're looking for restaurants/pubs/nightlife you'll have to drive. This is a budget hotel and I dont mean it in a bad way. What you get is great value for money and a great stay.
The hotel was very flexibile about leaving our cars on the premises even after we had checked out and gone for a days hike. Bed was surprisingly comfortable even though it didnt look like it at first glance - had a perfect nights sleep. Staff are warm and welcoming.
The real surpise came in the morning. Breakfast is EXCELLENT, we really weren't expecting the variety and tasty cooked to order options.
Overall I have to rate our stay as a 10. The facilities may not be to everyones preferences - they are good and clean, dont expect luxury but if your stay ends up being like ours, you'll leave very satisfied.

Location was excellent. Nice room if a little cluttered. Hotel decor is beautiful period style. The evening meal was one of the lovliest meals I have ever had. Exceptional. Would recommend this hotel to friends & family.

Elton is a lovely village, surrounded by beautiful countryside, there are several walks from the village & the locals are very friendly.
There is no shop in Elton but there is one in Winster, the pub in Elton only opens at 20.30hrs, but again there are others close by in surrounding villages.

Quiet village with a lot of old buildings. Being on the top of a hill it was quite windy but very fresh clean air, some nice local eggs and honey for sale outside a couple of houses. Great if you like walks and a peaceful break
