Sarum College, hotel in Downton

Situated 100 metres from Salisbury Cathedral, Sarum College offers 2-star accommodation in Salisbury and has a garden.

We enjoyed being located in the historic Cathedral Close, which is still locked overnight (against the outside world!) Reception welcome was good, and we preferred the educational surroundings to the more usual commercial "frills". We were very happy to have no TV or radio - therefore spared endless politics. Breakfast - in a bright roomy refectory - was excellent, with one exception...

Railway Hotel, hotel in Downton

Located in Fordingbridge, Railway Hotel features a terrace, restaurant, bar, and free WiFi throughout the property.

What an amazing find. The attention to detail really impressed my son and I. The hotel is railway themed throughout. We stayed in the adapted room as it had a double bed and a sofa bed (the Pullman). Lovely sunny courtyard to have a drink in if you wanted. Some super skylight windows that you could cover or open made the room nice and light and airy. Breakfast was delicious! Continental or full English with toast and fruit juice. Had a particularly informative, friendly and warm welcome from Mia. We ate in the evening in the train carriage themed restaurant and the food was very good. Don't be put off that it's in a residential area, it's very quite with some good walks locally.

The Kings Head, hotel in Downton

We really enjoyed our stay. The hosts were really so welcoming and went out of their way to make us feel at home and to help us with whatever we needed. The room was very nice and felt modern. It is located in a separate building so it was nice and quiet there. The cooked breakfast was delicious with locally sourced high quality produce. The location is great within easy access to various nearby towns and villages and I the heart of the New Forest. We'll definitely stay here again when we're next visiting the area.

Just a short break for the new forest as we had not visited for many years. Ideal for a short break, the owners had made the accommodation most comfortable and in our opinion spotless, so a big thank you for all there efforts.. We hope to stay again as the location was ideal...

The local view of The Bull is "only go there if you want a fight or drugs" - i'd say that is pretty accurate. As for our room, the plumbing barely worked, the noise from ventilation ducts was intolerable and the TV didnt work, not that it would have been audible above the noise. Dreadful place and I dont have particularly high standards.

We loved the close proximity of the pubs.

We loved the close proximity of the pubs. We had an excellent meal at The Goat and a lovely drink in the garden of the pub opposite. There was a convenience store at the garage close by and a Coop in the town. The town was very close to the New Forest.
