First class hotel. Friendly helpful staff, beautiful, comfortable room and excellent food. We were driving south from Scotland to Liverpool to join a cruise ship, unfortunately due to bad weather conditions our itinerary was changed and we elected not to sail. I rang the hotel on our way back north and were delighted that they were able to give us the same room. Would definitely stay at Roundthorn again.

The castle has a lot of history and was purported to be haunted. It has a Norman Keep with a museum, which we didn't go in but hope to next time. We loved the property and the staff were very accommodating and helpful.

This newly built guesthouse is in the market town of Penrith, a 15-minute walk from Penrith Train Station. It has beautifully decorated bedrooms, free Wi-Fi, free parking and hearty breakfasts.

The couple who runs this b n b are warm and friendly. The room is spacious and homey, breakfast is fresh and cooked to order. Nice conversation rounded out the visit. As an extra bonus, we arrived close to 9pm and were able to get some dinner at the pub next door.
