Breakfast fantastic, location of hotel excellent. We have stayed several times over the last few years and have noticed that the property has got a little tired and the cleanliness not quite as good as it used to be.
There was no frosted glass in the bathroom or an extractor fan. The net curtains needed a good wash.
Really do like the hotel shame to see it fraying a bit round the edges. Staff always friendly.
This fully modernised Georgian property, with its rosette award-winning restaurant, near the centre of Buxton, offers comfortable rooms with free Wi-Fi and parking.

Room was a little on the small/tight side but perfectly adequate for our one night and would have been for a couple more. Very nice full English breakfast and friendly welcome. Hotel is just a little old and tired but that’s what you get with a property like this with old character.
Dating from the 1580’s, Hawthorn Farm Guest House is set in a Grade II listed house, 10 minutes’ walk from the centre of Buxton. It offers country-house style rooms and home-cooked food.

Our lodgings were facing the park, which is very pleasant to walk through, but take care of the goose droppings! The Opera house is a lovely building and there is something on every night, and the Dome nearby is interesting architecturally. The swimming pool is next to the park and Dome. The local area contains many restaurants and bars covering all tastes, e.g. Greek, Spanish, Thai, Italian, and tea rooms. We ate at the Greek and Thai restaurants, and the food was good, and the staff were charming at both places. Some of these places need booking ahead of time. There is also a long street containing individual and chain stores, with friendly staff. Car parking can easily be found.

Guided tour of opera house good value for money , only £10 and lasted nearly 2 hours. Some nice pubs serving local beers. Shops a little run down with many closed down. Fantastic local pharmacy with many original features, well worth a visit.
Many restaurants and coffee shops to try in town. Buxton easy walking only 5 minutes from hotel.

We’re regular visitors to Buxton, it’s a great place to amble round with interesting shops, a lovely park & pavilion, some great walks and places of interest. For breakfast or lunch we’d recommend The Cafe at Green Pavillion and for dinner, if you like Italian food San Moritz is a great little restaurant - booking advisable. Buxton Brewery Tap is good for Ale lovers. There’s plenty to do to occupy you for a couple of days or so.

Buxton itself is a nice qwerky place where everything is very close together. A variety of places to eat and drink and quite a lot to see and do. I would visit again however I would choose my hotel carefully.

I was visiting Buxton for the Gilbert and Sullivan festival so most of my time was spent in the beautiful opera house and St Johns Church. The Old Club House is next to the opera house and has a varied menu served all day. There are lots of restaurants and interesting places in Buxton it is well worth a visit.
Ideal location to get around Buxton and next door to station and bus stop. My bed was larger than a single and I appreciated being checked in at 3pm. Good size carpark. Amazing building to view. The lounge area is stunning to sit in.The potential for this hotel is unbelievable. All staff were friendly. Extra room items like blankets, towels hairdryers always welcome. Has a lift which is great as lots of stairs and very large hotel.
The hotel overlooks the park and is a short walk along a promenade into the centre of Buxton. The hotel is not modern and has no lift, but it is well maintained, clean, comfortable and friendly. The service was excellent and the breakfasts likewise. Car parking at the rear of the hotel is limited [about 10 spaces] but otherwise can probably we found on the road behind.
Right in the centre looking over the park. The room was lovely ,it was very spacious and clean.
I hadn't realised that breakfast wasn't included but that was my fault.
We have stayed in many hotels in buxton for around the same price which did include breakfast so that's why I gave 4stars
But again this is nothing against the tea room!
If you are looking for something very special whilst you explore Buxton and the surrounding Peak District, treat yourself to this Hotel- In our opinion it is a superb hotel. Remember to swim in the rooftop open air pool. Beautiful room and excellent breakfast.
