FAQs about hotels in Bournemouth

Sea Air and Savoir-Faire

Known for its sandy beaches and good nightlife, Bournemouth is a popular seaside resort on the Dorset coast between Poole and Christchurch.

The town is centred on the Bourne River, running downhill towards the sea by Bournemouth Pier. This pier looks back towards a promenade lined with beach huts at the foot of grassy cliffs. The promenade continues west to Poole, while a road goes east to neighbouring Boscombe, where anglers often fish from its pier. Overlooking it is a clifftop road housing some Bournemouth hotels with sea views.

Booking.com also offers hotels near the BIC – Bournemouth International Centre in the West Cliff area. This convention centre and music venue is a short walk from the Art Deco Pavilion Theatre, located next to the Lower Gardens. In this popular city park is the Bournemouth Eye, a tethered hot air balloon that offers far-reaching views.

At the park’s top end the river disappears under a large square, then emerges in the Central Gardens. Overlooking these gardens is the Victorian town hall, which used to be one of several spa hotels in Bournemouth. Opposite is a Grade I-listed church, and St Peter’s Church has the grave of Mary Shelley, author of ‘Frankenstein’.

On the outskirts of town, near 4 golf courses and the Castlepoint Shopping Centre, is Bournemouth Airport.

Good and vibrant along the front and the shops on the main road, but once you go further into the town you lose all that. Lots of shops closed, felt a bit dilapidated. Found a great restaurant, Urban Garden. Lovely setting in the Garden and very good value for money. Lovely afternoon in the Garden with young hopeful dancers and singers/bands performing on the stage. Found it great that there were no wind turbines off the coast.

    I love Bournemouth!

I love Bournemouth! The beach is one of the best in the country. Really long and connects other nearby coastal places like Boscombe. All the beaches in the area are lovely and sandy (which is my favourite type of beach). Bournemouth also has a lovely park that connects the beach to the town, where there are plenty of retail shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. There are also Amusement parks, the pier, West Cliff Lift and the purple land train. Lots to keep you occupied.

Busy - traffic impatient and fast - roundabouts and junctions not always well-signed so very easy to find yourself in wrong lane in unforgiving traffic. No wonder there was a roadsign - Be Patient with other motorists. As a consequence avoided Bournemouth itself and went elsewhere.

Located in the cleaner and leafier end of west Bournemouth hotel land, this small hotel is one of many in between the city centre (The Triangle) and the West Cliff. Basic, a bit dated but functional and comfortable. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful, letting me leave a suitcase for a few hours after I checked out. Good value.
