FAQs about hotels in Bournemouth

Sea Air and Savoir-Faire

Known for its sandy beaches and good nightlife, Bournemouth is a popular seaside resort on the Dorset coast between Poole and Christchurch.

The town is centred on the Bourne River, running downhill towards the sea by Bournemouth Pier. This pier looks back towards a promenade lined with beach huts at the foot of grassy cliffs. The promenade continues west to Poole, while a road goes east to neighbouring Boscombe, where anglers often fish from its pier. Overlooking it is a clifftop road housing some Bournemouth hotels with sea views.

Booking.com also offers hotels near the BIC – Bournemouth International Centre in the West Cliff area. This convention centre and music venue is a short walk from the Art Deco Pavilion Theatre, located next to the Lower Gardens. In this popular city park is the Bournemouth Eye, a tethered hot air balloon that offers far-reaching views.

At the park’s top end the river disappears under a large square, then emerges in the Central Gardens. Overlooking these gardens is the Victorian town hall, which used to be one of several spa hotels in Bournemouth. Opposite is a Grade I-listed church, and St Peter’s Church has the grave of Mary Shelley, author of ‘Frankenstein’.

On the outskirts of town, near 4 golf courses and the Castlepoint Shopping Centre, is Bournemouth Airport.

Review of Our Recent Stay in Bournemouth

Review of Our Recent Stay in Bournemouth We have been visiting Bournemouth for many years, and it has always been one of our favourite holiday destinations. However, on our recent trip, we couldn't help but notice some changes since the pandemic. While Bournemouth remains a good place for a holiday, there have been some noticeable declines. One of the highlights of Bournemouth has always been its beautiful parks and pristine beaches. We were pleased to see that these are still very well-maintained. The local authorities have done an excellent job keeping these areas clean and welcoming, providing a perfect setting for relaxation and outdoor activities. Unfortunately, not everything has held up as well. Many of the hotels in Bournemouth seem to have suffered from a lack of care and attention. The economic impact of recent years has forced quite a few to close down, and some of those that remain open could use some refurbishment. It was disappointing to see this decline in the accommodation options, which used to be one of the area's strengths. Despite these issues, there are still plenty of activities and places to visit in Bournemouth. The town offers a variety of attractions for all ages, from cultural sites and family-friendly activities to vibrant nightlife and excellent dining options. There's never a shortage of things to keep you entertained. However, we felt that prices are steadily creeping up, and it seems like you're getting less for your money than in previous years. We've noticed this trend not just in Bournemouth but across the UK. While it hasn't deterred us from visiting, it's something to remember when planning your budget. Overall, while Bournemouth has seen some deterioration since the pandemic, it remains a worthwhile destination for a holiday. The beautiful natural scenery and range of activities still make it a good choice, but be prepared for some changes and higher costs.

We liked the way we could go everywhere we wanted to on the Beach Breezer bus which we could catch at the end of our road or at Boscombe Pier. There were places to eat within walking distance of the property. We also sampled ice creams available at numerous places along the promenade. Also, important for older holiday makers, lots of toilets available!!

Bournemouth remains a lovely place to visit for the beach,...

Bournemouth remains a lovely place to visit for the beach, attractions, shopping and long walks. Sadly some of the highlight features from previous visits have gone, the funicular, the balloon in the gardens. But, the gardens themselves are great for a walk. The aviary with its colourful birds was nice to see. There are still some lovely shops. But, like many other places there are a few closed down and graffiti marked buildings that affect the look of the place. Such a shame. But, we and the group we booked for all had a great time and would visit again.

A very pleasant British sea side town although not without the usual signs of economic decline in the high street. Lots of restaurants and eateries in the town centre and what appeared to be a very good bus and rail service. Open top buses available at frequent intervals to places like Swanage and around the Isle of Purbeck. Frequent train service to Wool with bus service to Lulworth Cove and the Jurassic Coast from the station. All well worth visiting.

Bournemouth is my favourite place in England to take some rest from London duties. I love absolutely everything in there; sandy beaches, landscapes, hospitality, people, pines, cliffs... the only one problem is to find a parking place during the weekends and summer holidays, but if you look around a bit, it's doable, not really at the beaches but within a mile. Actually, it's good to have a walk, so for me personally it's not an obstacle to come to Bournemouth at any time. I visit some favourite places in that area also in the winter and I always step into the water, no matter what. I would definitely recommend Bournemouth as a lovely place to relax.

Location is the best location near beach and Bournemouth centre or garden. My room was on top floor family room which was nice but the lift was out of order I have to take my luggage up to the top floor, The staff was too busy to help me. The room was a bit small in size despite of three people. The price is a bit overprice it is more than the 4-star hotel price. The hotel was overall very clean and refurnished with british lovely decoration. The staff was kind enough. if the price is lower I will come again. Thank you

Location and view was good. Staff was pleasant and helpful. They are one of 3 Oceana properties in a row on the East Ciff area of Bournemouth. Ocean views, several dining options, one small pool at Suncliff, but you can use the big one next door, with poolside dining. The room was "compact." I.e., rather small. Hard to have suitcases open and still walk to bathroom. But you get what you play for. Quick taxi service, cheap!! ,
