The Lion at West Pennard, hotel in Babcary

The Lion at West Pennard is set in West Pennard, 5 km outside Glastonbury and 39 km from Bath. This 15th century pub, offers refurbished en suite room and log fires.

A very well appointed and comfortable room with ample storage, and I loved that the ensuite had a bath as well as a a shower. There was a good selection of toiletries provided, and real coffee with a cafetiere and fresh milk in the room. The pub is welcoming and has a good outside space too, and a good varied menu at reasonable prices for food and drink. The breakfast was good, catering for vegan/vegetarian as well as conventional English breakfast and other cooked options, fresh fruit, yoghurt with compote, cereal and preserves, croissants and toast.

Liongate House, hotel in Babcary

Featuring free WiFi throughout the property, Liongate House is located in the centre of the Roman town of Ilchester, 35 miles from Bath. Free private parking is available on site.

Wonderfully welcoming hosts able to share good knowledge of the local area. A warm and comfortable bedroom with all creature comforts; real attention to detail (fresh milk and complimentary beers and soft drinks in the guests fridge) and spotlessly clean. Breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice. Although Ilchester is a small town with limited facilities we took our hosts advice and ate at very good Italian restaurant minutes walk away. Although just off the main road we heard no traffic noise and slept soundly. Thank you Liz and Graeme.

We were attending the nearby Navy Base for our sons passing out ceremony. During the time we had available - we visited Shaftesbury, which is a small town sat on top of a hill with amazing views up and down steep streets - we had a lovely lunch including homemade stew in the Sparkford Inn, near Yeovil - Enjoyed the countryside

The staff and host's made you feel very welcome and you could tell they enjoyed what they were doing .My partner and I came across this pub when we were looking for houses in the area and called in for a drink .We did not manage to find a house but found a little gem of a pub to spend three relaxing days in .

We don't go to Somerset that often but about every third year we make a beeline for Babcary. This was our third visit to the Red Lion and it still really appeals - a charming village pub, good reasonably priced food and an annexe with large, luxurious bedrooms. My wife has mobility issues and can cope with the ground floor bedroom and the layout of the pub, restaurant and breakfast room. It was our Silver Wedding Anniversary and the staff went out of the way to make it a special occasion for us. Really excellent. Highly recommended.

We were in Babcary for a wedding, and unfortunately the taxi we booked to get to the ceremony in the morning did not show up. Hugo from the Red Lion (very generously) gave us a lift instead - we were totally blown away by the generosity, and we most likely would have missed the wedding otherwise! Thank you so much to everyone at The Red Lion for going above and beyond to ensure we had a lovely weekend <3

Fabulous hotel and stay, The staff were incredibly welcoming both at check in and dinner and breakfast service. The food was exceptional and the menu had a good variety. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I also left an item of clothing behind and had to call to see if I could get the item returned the staff were most helpful and agreed to post back as I live over 200miles away.

The kitchen was closed so no facilities for Breakfast and no staff on duty at checkout. The hotel did give a refund on the room rate as a consequence but had to drive 8 miles to find a cafe for breakfast.
