The Forester, hotel in Alvediston

We don't quite know where to start with our praise for this beautiful country pub. From the gorgeous building and it's quiet secluded location to the stunning food. Our evening meals were to die for(especially the steak and ale pie with lovely gravy). The breakfasts were also delicious and plentiful and we all agreed we could have drunk a gallon of their orange juice!! Getting onto the rooms. Both were spacious and to be left such a selection of drinks, biscuits and toiletries was a delight. The beds were lovely and comfortable and we all wished we could have stayed longer. The attention to detail like leaving a box of tissues on the dressing table and bottles of water as well as hot drinks all go towards making this a very special place to stay. We will definitely stay here again if we visit our relations again or if we just want to come for a holiday. The owners were welcoming and attentive at all times. 10 out of 10. We would most definitely recommend this establishment to anyone.

Alvediston is a beautiful village with some fantastic walks and a lovely old church with the grave of Sir Anthony Eden. The Crown pub is ok for a pint but the accommodation is outdated by any modern standards. Food is disappointing.

We stay here quite often, as a base for visiting our family in the area. Added to that the location is quiet, rural and has great scenery. Plenty of walks to explore, but if you want more City of Salisbury is not far by car as is Shaftesbury, We ate at The Crown, but there are other 'eateries' in local villages, towns and cities. If you like a peaceful retreat, for a quiet stay, but with wider facilities close by this is the place for you!

Feels remote. Beautiful countryside. Great for walking.

Feels remote. Beautiful countryside. Great for walking. Great base for visiting Salisbury, Shaftesbury and Sherborne. Feels like Old England. Narrow lanes, plenty of hills. Beautiful views. Great place to get away from it all.

Small village / hamlet. Very quiet, off the beaten track.

Small village / hamlet. Very quiet, off the beaten track. Lots of walks, well signposted, but even more besides. Drovers trails for motorcycles and walkers alike. Beautiful hills and valleys. Lush countryside. Quaint old church. Friendly locals. Easy access to beautiful Shaftesbury and Sherbourne, as well as NT Stourhead Gardens. Narrow roads, so be careful if walking, but not a great deal of traffic.

Beautiful views across the valley, small village and so peaceful. We were told there are fabulous local walks and the surrounding villages are beautiful. There is a bus to Salisbury from the village and the next village has a train station to Salisbury.
