A few miles from the Belgian border, Lille displays Flemish influence in both architecture and cuisine. Its most famous square - Grand Place - is home to the beautiful Vielle Borse building, the Lille Christmas markets and several restaurants serving moules-frites and local beer.
Behind that is the Palais Rihour, a rather odd-looking building surrounded by cafes. In the opposite direction is another square with the opera house at the centre and triangular-shaped buildings fanning off in 3 directions. One of these cobbled streets leads to the Old Town, where boutiques and international brands are in beautifully crafted shops.
Shopping in Lille is actually epic. It has Europe’s largest bookstore (the 8-floor Furet du Nord) and largest flea market - the Braderie de Lille. Then there is the bustling Wazemmes market and the huge Euralille shopping centre. The town also has some fantastic chocolate shops.
Other attractions include the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Citadelle – a 17th-century fortress surrounded by a free zoo and gardens.
Lesquin Airport is on the city’s outskirts, but most visitors arrive at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, named after Lille’s most famous son. If travelling to Lille by Eurostar, check out the mural of famous European landmarks before heading to your Booking.com hotel, B&B or apartment.
Lille was a lovely place. I previously said beds were not comfortable but I take that back. They were very comfortable. It was at a previously accomodation that beds were uncomfortable. Apologies for this error regarding your apartment.

Lille has glorious squares, and a fabulous townscape reflecting the architectural glory of times past. It also has a more modern sector that held considerably less charm, with lots of graffiti and litter. On Tuesday all the museums are closed.

We got the Eurostar from London in standard premiere. Very nice trip and friendly staff.
Lille is easy to get around. We got a 48 hour pass, for bus, train and tram. Cheaper than in London
You must try HEIN Brique House restaurant. The food is delicious (chicken with Maroilles sauce, bavette, carbonade, and much more).
Many restaurants on Grand Place.
Pity the fountain was not working and there was no water in it.
We ate moules/frites on the first day with lovely desserts.
People are very friendly, bus drivers, staff in restaurants and shops...
We really enjoyed our trip to Lille.

Our trip started on a bad foot as most of the city was closed for the celebration of the 8th May but then, it started to blossom in the afternoon and streets started to become crowded with people.
I recommend to spend most of the time in the old town where most shops are located and where many small cafes are located. You can find many award-winning restaurant in that part and they are very close one another. I recommend tasting the pastries of Dona Bica and Les Merveilleux de Fred. I would recommend to skip the breakfast at whatever hotel and going to a local bakery for some fresh bread. Beware the coffee, I had a hard time finding a decent one, they all tasted much bitter than what I'm used to.
The Citadel is a nice place for a stroll and some quietness. We didn't have the time to visit the Museum of Fine Arts.
Pack a good pair of walking shoes because you will be walking a lot in the city center. You can buy a day pass to use every transportation system for 5.5€. There are bicycles available but there was a deposit system that I wasn't very fond of so I skipped that part, otherwise it is 1.8€ for 24h (but 200€ security deposit).

What is good is the fact that the two mainline stations are so close, very easy walking distance apart, approx 15 mins. I really enjoyed walking around, I must of walked 4 - 5 hrs on the day I arrived, after of course having had a shower and few moments rest on my bed. I'd encourage any first timer to France to go, my French is almost none existent, I learnt it, or didn't learn it at a very poor school many years ago, when we had to translate straight from French to Welsh, and my Welsh was not brilliant, we also had a teacher like a bear with a sore head, so I only did one year; still I got by and was understood on a good number of occasions.
great hotel so near transport and walkable to the centre of Lille .There is a huge shopping centre across the road and it's also across the road from the metro .Euro star is just a 15 minute walk and lots of great restaurants are on the doorstep.
A great budget hotel .Staff are really lovely.
Don't travel here on a Sunday as nothing is open in Lille ,my fault for not checking .
I would recommend doing a tour in a convertible citroen from Get Your Guide ,a great experience showing you all the town of Lille and the history .
The hotel is located in the city center, so you can walk everywhere which is really nice. The breakfast at the hotel is decent, and the staff was very friendly. Despite being in France there was one staff member who spoke a bit of Dutch, which was appreciated. I would recommend this hotel if you want to visit the city center of Lille.
You cannot reserve a parking spot at the hotel, but you can park at the Lille Grand Palais, which is a 5 minute walk to the hotel, and has easy access to the highway.
The apartment we stayed in far exceeded my expectations. The location is amazing, right in the centre of the city and beside the two main train stations. The apartment was spacious with everything we needed including a fridge and cooking facilities. The views over the city are amazing, the bed was comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely be staying here again for our next trip to Lille.
Very convenient for the stations and to walk in to the attractions of Lille old town. Great value family room perfect for an overnight stay or maybe 2 nights. Abundance of places to eat nearby including cafes for breakfast just below the hotel. Lots of clean towels, decent shower comfortable beds. Couldn’t fault it for the money.
The hotel was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It is very close to the two main railway stations and also to the city centre of Lille. The breakfasts were basic continental but were still good.
The bathroom was small but very good, clean and adequate for our needs with plenty of hot water and a good shower.
We really felt pampered. We did not know when we booked this hotel that the restaurant was under the supervision of a professional and widely-known chef. Our four-course dinner evolved into six courses and the breakfast the following morning was the best of our five-week trip. The setting along the canal was very relaxing.
We really enjoyed our 1 night stay in the hotel in lovely Lille. Everything was so neat and tidy. The room has everything you need. Breakfast costs €10.95 but it was perfect. Above all we really liked Simon at the reception. He was super friendly and helpful. The hotel is great value for money. highly recommended.
Amazing staff who couldn't have been more attentive and helpful. Fantastic location, easy to walk into the old town of Lille and very quiet, even though only a few hundred metres from busy bars and restaurants. Very generously sized room with extremely comfy bed and pillows. Large walk-in shower.
Great location just opposite Gare de Lille Flandres and just a short walk to city centre. We stayed in an apartment which was small and cosy but had everything we needed for one night. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.
Perfect location at walking distance of the centre. Traffic and parking can be very difficult in Lille so the option to park (and use elctric charging point) at the hotel is very convenient. Charming hotel and very friendly staff.
The hotel was centrally located and in great condition. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was amazing, certainly prepared with great care. This hotel gives one a great way to enjoy Lille for a few days.
Excellent location - only a few minutes' walk into the old town and about a 15 minute walk from Eurostar station. Comfortable room and very comfortable bed. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Within a 10-15 minutes walk from the main Lille Train Station / Eurostar Station.
Close to all amenities in the city centre.
The hotel is clean. Rooms are a good size. Very good breakfast.
Good value for money. There is secure parking (at an extra cost) underneath. The hotel is very new and clean. It is an easy walk into the centre of Lille (about 30 minutes), or a 11€ Uber.
The hotel is in a fabulous location to explore the centre of Lille. The beds were comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful, and the reception area was a great place to relax.
The hotel has retained its character and charm from the '50s and '60s. Quaint and comfortable. Its central location in the old town is ideal for walking to interesting sites.
The hotel was modern, clean and in a nice central place in Lille france.
The staff were extremely nice and helpful.
I would recommend anyone to stay at the Okko hotel
Great hotel with secluded terrass only 2 metro stops away from city centre. Nice lounge corner on the terrass. Beds were comfortable and shower great. Fantastic breakfast!!
