The location was lovely if a bit tricky to get to . Beautiful old building nicely restored . Our room overlooked the garden . Good secure parking. Terrace overlooking the garden with views beyond was stunning and very helpful staff. Restaurant was very busy so advise booking. Room rate was good value , small but very nice bathroom.

Only about ten minutes walk to be right in the centre. There’s a tram stop right outside the door, easy to buy tickets from the machine at the stop. 1.40 euros a ticket but cheaper if you buy three or more. Room was comfortable, staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was very good, all good quality. Under ground parking 10 euros a day useful. Because of the trams some roads are one way, we had to drive past the turning and make several turns to get to it. No bar but there is one a few minutes walk away.

We went to Besancon to visit a friend and had only time for a short walk around the city. We visited Victor Hugo's birthplace which was very informative, and we were delighted to see some Roman ruins preserved in the center of the city. We didn't have time to visit the museum of the Resistance and would very much like to visit it on our next trip there.

Besancon is a nice small French town.
Besancon is a nice small French town. It has a couple things to do in the city, but I feel like the better ones are the Citadelle and parts outside of the city. But you need a vehicle to better reach outside.
I stayed 2 nights during January, it was cold and a bit windy, so going to a higher place was out of the question.
Th Time Museum and Victor Hugo's birthplace are pretty cool to visit and not expensive.
Lastly, I felt that people in Besancon were very friendly.

The nature is nice.
The nature is nice. You can make different walks in and around the town.
The busconnection is perfect en cheap. So you can leave the car at the hotel. You don't have to look for a parking near the town.
There are more museums than we aspected. Only the museum of resistance was closed.

In summer not all restaurants are open for business.
In summer not all restaurants are open for business. So it is wise to make reservations because it is busy. There is not a lot of trees, flowers, parks so the city looks a bit "stoney" / not romantic. The citadel is nice to visit though with children.

Tiny place and the shower was blocked, so we didn't use it.
Tiny place and the shower was blocked, so we didn't use it. It is a good choice for an emergency stop while traveling (in my case, from Germany to France) because of the location. I think they could do better.

Wished we could have stayed longer to visit Besancon!
Wished we could have stayed longer to visit Besancon! We only stopped overnight on our way back to Germany but saw the Citadelle lit up at night and had a 20min wander in the morning before heading out. The city looked really interesting to visit and wander around for at least a full day or two. Might look into going back through in the future to see more of it.
We have stayed here before, and were again very satisfied. Good hotel for a night on the road. For the type of hotel (on industrial area) and the price this is much much better than the usual hotel chains you find in such areas in France. Nice color full room, with all we need. No noise of cleaning staff in the morning, free parking, supermarket nearby, noon (late) checkout, clean, good bed, elevator, good badroom. We arrived after closing time reception (23:00) but they arrange to provide the key.
Staff on reception were lovely. Very helpful in assisting us with all our questions. The rooms were spotless and beds comfortable. Parking at property was fully booked but there was an easy parking option around the corner which was very close to the hotel which was free from 7pm until 9am. There was a little shop 20m from the hotel entrance which was very convenient. It was a short walking distance to the centre of the village. Breakfast was good not a lot of options but typical for France.
The hotel is great for families with kids as there are multiple entertainment options for killing time with restless kids. Moreover the half pension is a good value for money and both breakfast and dinner staff are friendly. The hotel seems to be oriented towards guests with cars but it's totally feasible to reach it by public transport. Otherwise it's an uphill walk from the train station
Efficient hotel located in an industrial area outside the city of Besançon. The parking was perfect just in front of the hotel and it felt quite secure. The room was fairly but fit the description. The bed and the pillows were really comfortable and amongst the best we ever had in a hotel. Everything was really clean and working.
Location is a small downhill walking distance from the Besançon Viotte train station, if you leave you can catch a tramline from the end of the street (stop République) back up. If you would in the opposite direction from the hotel you immediately are in the heart of the old city with plenty of shops and good restaurants.
Indeed not the typical city hotel but with a lot of personell charme and all looks maintained well. Breakfast was good for french style. Even freshly pressed orange juice. Safe parking of bicycles. Direct in the center of the town. Spacy room. Good for a longer stay.
Directions to the hotel where keys need to be fetched/check-in could be more clear. I walked up and down the road (from the apartments) as I did not think it was going to be that far down the road to Hotel Sauvage. Maybe specific directions could be indicated.
The hotel is right across the train station and within walking distance to other places in the city. The room was a bit bigger than I thought and staffs were always friendly. Plus, my room was ready at noon, which is the time I got there.
We use the hotel as a stop with our Tesla as there is a Supercharger on-site. This time we also visited Besançon for a good dinner. The property has a fence so it gives you a bit more safety for your belongings in the car.
A lovely little hotel in the old part of Besançon. We particularly liked the great views of the city from our room. Breakfast was good and the restaurant was excellent, it’s just a shame it’s not open on weekends.
I went to Besancon for a course. The hotel was next to the faculty, within walkable distance. The check-in was very convenient as well as check out. There is an paid underground garage which is useful in winter.
Small but nice hotel with SPA and Pool inside and outside. Good location with own parking that has the sockets for electric cars. Very pleasant stuff. We have spent good time in Besancon staying in this hotel
Hotel staff was really kind. Breakfast was really nice with fresh orange juice and bakery. Parking is nearby and they accompany you after unloading your baggage. Thanks again for everything!
