Pereira is a great city to use as a hub if renting a car.
Pereira is a great city to use as a hub if renting a car. The exchange rate allows one to stay at the 5 star hotels located in the heart of the city, on the main street next to all shops, malls and main plaza.
Pereira has a functional airport on its outskirts and is also a quick drive to Salento, Filandia, Valle del Cocora or any of the natural hot springs.
Dont get too overwhelmed by the first impression and the streets are always busy.

I love Pereira.
I love Pereira. However, I am biased because my husband is from there. Pereira is a nice city with lots of restaurants, bars and clubs. There are several malls, a couple of which are very nice. The people are super friendly, as all most Colombians. There are lots of taxis. I am very white, lol, and I have never been overcharged by anyone when I was not with my husband or Colombian friends. Some of our favorite restaurants are Zelva and Bianco. Try La Lucerna for breakfast, they open at 9:00am. For a super unique evening dining experience, visit El Columpia Parrilla in Dosquebradas. You will not regret it.

Pererira is a center city in the "eje cafetero" (coffee region) and you can reach many touristic places from there. You can find nice places, we ate at Rodizio in Mall San PAblo and it was great.
Avoid to travel in "peak" dates because some places are too crowded.

SAFE place--don't believe the media reports. Exceptionally safe as long as you go to the main squares and dont stay out past midnight etc.

People very nice and friendly. Beautiful Christmas decorations everywhere. Everything is walkable to shopping malls, parks, sight seeing. Hotel was perfect classy. Coffee, ice cream and food downstairs. Reception knew how to direct you to anywhere you wanted to go whether walking, or taxi.
It's a really large and comfortable one bedroom apartment, I am a motorcycle tourist that was stuck in the rain the hotel I planned to stay at was not safe so I booked this last minute which I would not recommend but the reaction to a last minute booking was great. It's a good place to stay a week at a time not just for one night. Off street secure parking garage. Ground floor unit walk out. Good security
Lovely hostel with amazing friendly helpful staff, great chill out areas, really clean, delicious breakfast & coffee, comfy beds with curtains & a shelf alongside it to put your phone, books etc. lamps and plug sockets also inside the bed area.

This hotel is one of the best in Pereira. We had a room on the top floor with a beautiful view over the city. Just across from the hotel is a beautiful cathedral. The breakfast was very good. The beds were comfortable. We had lunch in the hotel restaurant and the food was good. The staff are friendly and some of them speaks good English. The room and the bathroom were spacious and very clean.
Hacienda San Jose exceeded my expectations! One of the most beautiful boutique hotel I’ve ever stay at. the decor and customer service was like no other it was personalized by every staff member. when I travel back to Pereira this will be the only hotel I will stay at. no reason to go else where. The hotel is a elegant and corporate hotel that fulfills what one expects from such a chain. However the location at the center of Pereira is super chaotic and although nothing happened, we did not feel comfortable walking around. Which made the hotel a simple sleeping location and not a bridge for knowing the city.
The bedroom (suite) was really big, clean, confortable and quiet. It had everything we needed.
The breakfast was really good.
The staff was nice and helpful.
We recommend this hotel and would stay there again when visiting Pereira.
I really like the hotel overall, the staff is great, the room was large, bed was comfortable and the bedding is of good quality. It's also good location convenient to many things in the central area of town.
Polite staff, clean bedroom and toilet, in the night you can hear a little bit of noise from outside but for me was not a problem. The hotel is 5 minutes walk from the terminal so great position.
