I always stay at this hotel when I go to Basel because they are very special for dealing with people. They do everything to keep you comfortable, and the hotel staff are really good. The bed is very comfortable and super quiet to sleep in, the temperature is always pleasant in the rooms and the shower is wonderful. Additionally, the hotel is super well located, easy to get to SBB Station, and many restaurants around. Rating 10 for this hotel in Basel. and they even have a complete gym, including a sauna. Consum Boutique Hotel, hotel in Basel

Located in Basel, 1.3 km from Kunstmuseum Basel, Consum Boutique Hotel features a bar and views of the city.

The location is in a nice area of Basel very close to the Rhein , with nice little Cafes and restaurant. ( A bit tricky to find) Only 10 min walk away to the city centre. The room itself was not very big, but high quality interiors, very comfortable bed, the bathroom was very spacious. The weather was extremely hot for beginning of September. We struggled a bit with the nights as we only had very warm down feather duvets without AC. Couldn’t open the windows because of the outdoor noise of the bar on the ground floor and the main hotel on the opposite side of the narrow road. It was a shame that we only spotted the coffee and tea facilities outside the room on the corridor when we departed.

FAQs about hotels in Basel

Switzerland Through the Ages

At the meeting point of Switzerland, Germany and France, Basel is an eclectic mix of historic and modern, tranquil and vibrant. With Swiss cleanliness and efficiency thrown in for good measure.

Augusta Raurica on its outskirts houses a well-preserved Roman theatre, while the Old Town is a museum of medieval buildings. The Renaissance Town Hall looks down on Marktplatz’s daily market, while the red sandstone and colourful tiles of the Münster were reconstructed in the 19th century. Bringing it right up to date are the modern creations of city residents Herzog & De Meuron, designers of London’s Tate Modern.

When you’ve finished exploring this architectural heritage, there are still plenty of things to do in Basel. The city’s fine art museum is the world’s oldest art collection, and the zoo is the oldest and largest in Switzerland. Remember to bring plenty of Swiss francs for the shopping mile along Clarastrasse and Freiestrasse.

The Basel accommodation on Booking.com ranges from hotels in Grossbasel to B&Bs in Kleinbasel, home to the nightlife. If you’re flying into Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport in February or March you might just catch Fasnacht: Switzerland’s biggest carnival. You’ll have to get up early to see it start though - 4am!

Basel is a beautiful city, the hotels will give every visitor a free ticket for transport, which is great, although it is best to walk around. There are interesting museums in the city - the music museum, where you can learn a lot about musical instruments and listen to them, the toy museum, the tinguely museum, etc.

A very friendly city, with an amazing tram system All hotel guests get a free Baselcard, which allows free travel on public transport in the city. There is plenty to see in the city to keep a visitor occupied. If you have seen all the sites in Basel and have a day free, Colmar, a small but beautiful city in Alsace, France, is a 50 minute train ride away.

Basel was much nicer than I had anticipated!

Basel was much nicer than I had anticipated! I usually go to Luzern and Zurich while traveling by train; making them brief stops of two or three days. This time I stopped in Basel and I was delighted with this wonderful city! I can’t wait to return and plan on staying a few more days to take it all in! Wonderful for shopping and dining and easy to get to on the train. Also convenient for visiting surrounding areas, making an ideal home base for longer visits in Switzerland.

    We absolutely loved the zoo!

We absolutely loved the zoo! Quite small but the layout was deceptive so that it seemed much larger. The animals appeared well cared for and the enclosures were spacious with attention to enriching the environment for them, while at the same time allowing the visitors to get very close to them. In a very expensive country the entrance fee was very reasonable and half price with the Basel card. The university botanical garden was also a little gem with a collection of unusual plants beautifully displayed and free to visit. Basel itself an attractive city with a good feel about it. Don’t miss the quirky fountains near the theatre in the centre of town. Everything is very expensive for a British visitor which applies to Switzerland in general.

Perfect for a city break and good connection even to travel to other cities nationally and internationally as Basel is sandwhiched between France and Germany so, up to you where your heart will lead you for a day trip towards those countries. Peaceful and efficient. Trasport good, people chilled. Be ready to bring some money if you need to stay longer.

We were so pleasantly surprised at how wonderful this hotel was based on the price. It was one of the most comfortable hotels we stayed in during our visit to Switzerland and provided everything we needed and more than expected for such a reasonable price. And the location was absolutely perfect - right next to the train station and bus stop which allowed us to get everywhere we wanted to go quickly and conveniently. We also found the staff to be extra friendly. We can’t recommend the Hotel Schweizerhof highly enough.

The hotel is located right opposite Basel SBB, and only 10 min walk from the old town. It looks freshly refurbished, nicely decorated. The room I had was in the annex facing the inner courtyard: clean, comfortable, with a good bed. I wish I had noticed that the control panel for the heating also activated the external blackout roller: when I tried at checkout it seemed to do a good job. Staff was friendly and nice, ready to help. Overall great overnight stop.

This is a simple, clean, nice hotel metres away from Basel train station, very handy for the airport. As it's Switzerland, the price reflected that. However, it was exactly what we wanted for one night. Definitely will stay there again. The check in situation seems more complicated than it is, but just use the main entrance next to the Starbucks. The receptionists there look after three hotels. They're nice and professional.

Wonderful old hotel in old town Basel, convenient walking distance to many sites. Had a great bar/cafe and two wonderful restaurants. Its right on one of the tram lines, so just walk out your door and you are connected to the clean and efficient swiss public mass transit system. The hotel is a great place to hang out for a day or two as well, and depending on your language skills, there's entertainment that occurs at the hotel.

The idea of a capsule is excellent! For someone who suffers from sleeping problems and with limited budget like me, it is a perfect option between hostel and hotel. I like my capsule. I stayed there the first night and last night of my holiday in Switzerland. On the first night I asked for some extra pillows as I sleep sitting up, and also for a seat and/or rubber mat for the shower as i am elderly and scared of slipping. I was impressed to find when I arrived two weeks later, that the receptionist had remembered what i had requested before and they were already in my room.
