I was on a visit to see my brother who lives at the Michener...

I was on a visit to see my brother who lives at the Michener Centre. It might be because of this place for people with developmental disabilities that people with disabilities have more accommodations. For example, it's rare to find a place that isn't accessible for people in a wheelchair. I think the Collicutt Centre with it's hot pool for people in a wheelchair and another hotpool withing the Collicutt Centrefor more able bodied people is a real bonus. They have wheelchairs on site that can be taken into the pool and the Collicutt Centre is open at reasonable hours for people in a wheelchair. Also, an assistant for someone in a wheelchair gets in free there.

We stayed to visit my brother in Michener Centre.

We stayed to visit my brother in Michener Centre. We took him to the Collicutt Centre which is fully accessible for people in wheelchairs in the pools. The Collicutt Centre provides wheelchairs to be taken into the water. There is a hot pool for people in wheelchairs and a hot pool for more able bodied people. It is also fully accessible for people in wheelchairs at Gaetz Memorial United Church. On the whole Red Deer is progressive for people with disabilities.

Red Deer is an unknown gem of a mini-vacation.

Red Deer is an unknown gem of a mini-vacation. There's lots of things to keep you busy, from quiet pursuits (Fort Normandeau, the migratory bird sanctuary, parks, etc) to much more active pursuits like the BMX trials, the air show and concerts that we heard about when we were there. It's got loads of shopping in less crowded spaces as well as many specialty shops if that's your thing. Great restaurants and access to many prairie gems as well. We love Red Deer as a weekend haunt.

Staff were lovely and friendly, very helpful and pleasant to interact with. The hotel itself is clean and sells all the essentials, it is also well-located for people travelling in and out of Red Deer frequently with ample parking, and close to restaurants and gas stations. Free hot breakfast was also excellent and the staff there were very sweet and friendly, even at 6 am. Wonderful people working here!

The place just felt right for us. Staff was friendly and helpful. The room was set up right, with simple needs in mind. Ever notice how few accessible wall plugs there are in hotel rooms? Not here. There was actually a small power bar mounted on the bedside table. Made my day. 👍
