Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.
The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.
Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.
Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.
The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.

Like the rest of Tasmania, the most important aspect is the close proximity to so many contrasting attractions: compared to mainland states, it is a relatively short drive from the mountains to the sea, from the city to the country. The scenery is breath-taking!

Hobart is a city full of history and life.
Hobart is a city full of history and life. Unlike many cities it has kept it's small town feel while having the many of the amenities that you would find in a much larger city.
You don't even need to rent a car to spend time in the city as most places are within walking distance however if you do be careful the streets can be rather confusing.

Hobart is an incredible city for its size, jamb packed with incredible food, beautiful architecture, spectacular markets and harbour. It's a short drive to Huon Valley and the incredible apple orchards.
Mt Wellington is a spectacle and a great location for beautiful photos.
It's a city that should be on your list to visit.

Hobart is a nice city for around one day.
Hobart is a nice city for around one day. I was here cause I had a tour planned departing from Hobart. The city itself is not that exciting so one day is more than enough to see the city centre. Of course, if you want to visit the MONA museum or hike up Mt Wellington you need some more days. My tour guide also said that there are a lot of nice vineyards/wineries in the surrounding area so have a look for that if that is something you like!

I really enjoyed this city but I am more of a small town vibe. Bumi coffee's sambal chilli scrambled eggs was the highlight! Sadly did witness/experienced 3 incidences of potential racism towards Asians though...

Richmond was worth a look at the convict bridge and quirky shops. The old jail was interesting. Salmon ponds were good and lunch of pancakes there was delicious! Russell falls was very pretty. Needed more than a day to see all that Hobart has to offer.
Spacious and comfortable room with a great view of the waterfront. Good bed, bedside tables with reading lamps, a comfortable couch, and soft carpeting. And our son and daughter-in-law had a suite big enough for a cot for their baby, just as we’d requested. What we especially appreciated is that instead of pretensions of luxury typical of so many hotels these days, we found down-to-earth hospitality and practical amenities. Excellent value for the price.
The hotel is housed within a beautiful old and stunningly maintained house in the best part of Hobart with a view down the Derwent River. Our room was beautiful and large with a terrific view. Breakfast is provided on a self serve basis which just makes it very relaxed. Ash, the manager, was very easy to deal with and a great host. Thoroughly recommend it as a better alternative to a 5 star hotel.
Moss Hotel is the ultimate Salamanca experience, situated within walking distance of many Hobart historic sights. The old building has been repurposed beautifully. Our room had high-ceilings and huge windows with a view to the harbour. We bought delicious meals and local produce at Salamanca Fresh downstairs. The staff were so helpful with tourist information and parking. Highly recommend this hotel.
Location was exceptional: right next to the waterfront and just a short walk (5 minutes) to Salamanca and Hobart CBD. Plenty of dining and coffee options are nearby.
Room was spacious and very comfortable, more like a small mezzanine apartment with separate kitchen area.
Artwork throughout the hotel provided a great vibe and lent a unique character to the hotel.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
The location with views to kunanyi/Mount Wellington and of the Derwent River were sublime and so close to everything we needed, as was the ferry from Bellerive to Hobart City which was within easy walking distance and adjacent to the Waterfront Hotel - their steaks are delicious! Our host Emily was wonderful and this property is highly recommended.
Quiet location within a few minutes of Hobart CBD - the apartment is fully renovated with modern furniture and bedding
There are good kitchen appliances, ceramic electric cooktop and microwave, dishwasher and washing machine - luxury cutlery and utensils.
Large Flatscreen TV and free Wifi rounds up the facilities.
The hotel was located in a superb part of Hobart, with a delightful view of the harbour! It was an easy stroll to some of the main sites, as well as accessible to the airport via the main road. The room was comfortable and a decent size, with modern amenities and a fairly noiseless environment.
The property is exceptional! it is spacious, clean and has every amenity one could want. A huge TV in the living room, high end appliances and a vast amount of information about Hobart and Tasmania - a truly delightful part of the world. We loved every moment of our stay!
Perfect location to roam around Hobart! Great restaurants and bars nearby, but also a 10min walk into the CBD for more options.
Room was beautiful and bed was incredibly comfy. Lighting was dull, but suited the mood of the hotel.
Will definitely be coming back again.
This is a great little apartment hotel in a superb location. The rooms are large, comfortable and well equiped. The staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel is about a 2 minute walk from Salamanca Place (and markets) and the historic Hobart docks. Highly recommended.
I loved the artifacts and all the historical information around the property. It was like having a museum in the hotel. The room was amazing and the waterfront views were spectacular! Friendly staff, tasty food and drink options as well. Exceptional stay!
A very charming hotel with great hosts. We loved eating breakfast in the dining room each morning and our room was really spacious. The location was fantastic for exploring Hobart CBD, Battery Point, Salamanca and the Waterfront.
Position great on the Hobart waterfront. Walk to attractions. Historic place. A good value breakfast was included and this makes it a good proposition to stay vs other waterfront hotels.
