Cairns city is a budtling busy place for its size with lots of car traffix and crowds at times. The variety of food on offer was great with so many cafes and eateries open at all hours. lovely weather!!
Not easy to get around Cairns city unless you're located close to the esplanade.
Far too many traffic lights and busy road crossings make pedestrian walking tiring. Public transport needs to be located at better stop intervals and a free for tourists & locals cairns city shuttle bus to get from stop to stop locally in the could be handy. I Would've avoided the over touristy busy markets which were overrated.

Lovely streetscaping and views to the hills was good.
Lovely streetscaping and views to the hills was good. Cairns is easy to navigate and to find your way about. Traffic management, such as lights that stay red for too long and not enough pedestrian crossings, needs to be improved. Also, for a tourist city, it is hard to find anywhere to buy meals. Vegetarians are rarely catered for, and not everyone wants to eat at pub, with some awful noise in the background strumming a guitar.

The snorkeling trip and the visit to Fitzroy Islands.
The snorkeling trip and the visit to Fitzroy Islands. There are many other near by islands nearby.
The city is rather drab and lifeless. Does not inspire too much confidence to go out in the night with family.

Cairns was the highlight of our 10-day trip to Australia.
Cairns was the highlight of our 10-day trip to Australia. We loved the beautiful natural beauty it offers and the convenience as a base point to snorkel at the Great Barrier Reef, ride the gondola to Kuranda Village and hike Daintree Rainforest. Mossman Gorge and the gondola stop within the Daintree Rainforest is jaw-dropping when you see the trees, plants and fauna.
Park rangers, hotel staff, and even shuttle bus drivers were very friendly and accommodating, especially the people at Visions Apartment on the esplanade. There were lots of restaurants and shopping around the esplanade. Lots of activities for multi-generational group of ours.
We rented a car last minute from a local family-run rental, who brought the car to our hotel. Very friendly and convenient! We were a bit nervous driving on the left side of the road, but turned out to be an easy drive to Mossman Gorge and Port Douglas. We hiked the well-marked trails and learned about the local Aborigines culture in Mossman then stopped in Port Douglas to see wild cockatoos, fox bats and had great ice cream in the small town. We loved everything about Cairns and even though there were rain storms during our trip in May, it was a nature-lovers dream!
Our view, was a sea view, even though we were by the Marina.
It looked over part of the esplanade which we liked.
The hotel was across from the Reef Terminal, which was great as I was wondering how far we would have to walk to get there. I had booked the tour from home. Not even a five minute walk.
The hotel was close to many restaurants, just below or along the boardwalk.
We did some walking around town for souvenirs and shopping and even managed to go to the Cairns Aquarium.
Cairns was our holiday destination, so we selected Cascades because it is close to the city centre and esplanade (walking distance, we walked it many times).
Owner/manager was helpful, service was great, thank you.
Off-street safe parking.
We were in an upstairs unit, and no noise from the road.
Unit was large, comfortable and clean. Kitchen area worked well.
Plenty to do in Cairns !!!
Then add Port Douglas and may attractions in the area.
Cascade Gardens is recommended.
We came to Queensland as a family for a 10 day holiday. Four days into the break, one of our party tested COVID+ Due to the Queensland school holidays it was not possible to remain in quarantine in the motel we had booked prior. Paradise Links Resort in Port Douglas, and Sunshine Tower Hotel In Cairns were fully informed of our developing COVID status and they honoured our bookings and treated us very well.
The location to central Cairns is great! Very easy to get around. We had a double pram so that comes with all its own issues. The hotel was very easy to get to from the airport and was really cheap in a taxi ($25 AUD). Muddy's playground and cafe is a short 3 minute walk and is fantastic for little kids. Goose Cafe up the road in the opposite direction is the best coffee and breakfast in Cairns. we loved it!
I really appreciated my stay in this hostel :) My shared room was kept clean and tidy, the kitchen and the dinning room were sufficiently equipped (with coffee and tea at our disposal), the location was ideal (close to everything), the staff was attentive to my needs ans I met wonderful people.
I can only recommend staying in this hotel if you want to enjoy Cairns !
Massive 2 bedroom apartment - lots of room, very comfortable for a family stay. Great self contained accommodation, full kitchen and full size fridge. Good location, 5 min drive to the City, opposite the Esplanade/Beach and next to the hospital. Secure parking for a vehicle, bus stop at the entrance. Nice swimming pool/spa and sauna.
Location, location, location. Right on the Esplanade and lagoon, you can't beat this hotel for a central stay in Cairns. We took a short walk to the marina for our great barrier reef cruise.
The property was beautiful, very chic and modern. Clean and comfortable. The city view from the room is quite pleasant.
Quite spacious apartment, with a comfortable bed. Well equipped kitchen. It is virtually next door to Cairns Central Shopping Centre which makes access to two large supermarkets 5 - 10 mins away. The Esplanade in Cairns is only a 12 -15 minute stroll away. There are also three pools - one heated.
The hotel is very beautiful, with two enormous pools. It has also a very nice garden, and a guest room which is very handy if you, like me, wake up too early and does not want to wake up other people in you room. Finally, the price is much better than most hotels in Cairns, it's amazing value.
our room was lovely and very clean, we enjoyed the pool area and the location of the hotel was great and so convenient to the tourist hub of Cairns, the breakfast was more than adequate with a great choice and the staff in your breakfast area were exceptionally helpful.
The staff were very helpful and friendly, and the hostel had a fantastic location in the city within a short walking distance to the Esplanade and many of Cairns best attractions. The hostel was also very clean with great facilities.
The view and location was fabulous. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was large and balcony was great. There was a bottle shop attached and hotel was close to the hospital and an easy walk to the main part of Cairns esplanade.
The hotel's location is central to everything. Great to walk around and explore the near by sites and Esplanade. Will return to Cairns and stay here again! The reception staff upon checking in and on the second day were terrific!
Location is amazing and can't be beat! Mere steps to the esplanade and lagoon (a man made wading pool). Sun rise right outside the bay windows! Apartment is well equipped and comfortable for a family of 4.
Looking for an affordable but nice place to stay? The Palm Royale is not in central Cairns, but is right next to the Raintrees bus terminal, which can get you all over the city in minutes.
Cairns plaza hotel is in a great location right on the esplanade, the room was clean and tidy!
Staff were friendly and accommodating for us extending our nights stay (twice)
The location of the hotel with easy access to The Cairns Esplanade and the location of the room on the Garden (2nd) Floor with pool and BBQ area. Off street car parking.
I liked the location, I was easily able to explore the city centre of Cairns on foot. i choose Mantra hotels because i know what to expect and they never let me down.
