White Grass Ocean Resort & Spa, hotel in Tanna Island

Complimentary Airport Transfers. Please advise the Resort of your flight details in advance.

White Grass Resort has a great location on the western beaches of Tanna - perfect to watch sunset with a drink during happy hour. The grounds are beautifully kept and the rooms are very comfortable. Airport transfers, snorkelling gear, kayaks, pushbikes and breakfast are all complimentary. Breakfast was amazing and it was easy to organise tours and activities. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our flight back to Port Vila was cancelled at the last minute and the staff organised alternate flights that day for all departing guests with Air- Taxi. You pay a premium for the accommodation but when staff are able to make a significant issue like a cancelled flight seem like a mere blip it is worth it.

Tanna Lava View Bungalows, hotel in Tanna Island

Featuring mountain views, Tanna Lava View Bungalows in Lénakel features accommodation, a garden and a terrace. There is an in-house restaurant and free private parking.

Staying at Tanna Lava View Bungalow was the best part of our trip to Vanuatu. Getting there is an adventure in itself. After multiple stops in town to get supplies and pick up other passengers we were on our way across the island to the Bungalow and volcano. The steep road over the mountains is sealed but once across the island the road becomes a rutted dirt track for the remainder of the journey. To get to the bungalow you have to drive along creeks, cross ash plains and travel on some very interesting tracks - especially after rain. The bungalow is located up the hill above the village of Isaka and the view is AMAZING!. You can hear the eruptions from Mt Yasur and at night you can see the red glow above the volcano. It was incredible to wake up to a loud boom and see Yasur glowing and to watch the sunrise over it. The bungalow is a thatch hut with straw mats on the floor and basic but comfortable bedding. There is only limited solar power for lighting at night and cold water in the shower. The location gives you some privacy from the village yet is close enough to wander around at your leisure. We felt safe and comfortable during our stay and only shut the door to keep the roaming pigs out. Daniel and Chela were incredible hosts. Communication from Daniel ahead of our stay was quick and friendly and he was so flexible in meeting our changing requests for activities. During our stay Chela was so warm and welcoming. Dinner and breakfast were local fare and very tasty. We really enjoyed talking with her about her village and life on Tanna. As others have said in previous reviews - this place is not a resort. It is "rustic" and there is still damage from last year's cyclones. If you have a sense of adventure and enjoy camping, authentic village experiences or appreciate a slower and quieter existence then give this place a go.

Rockwater Resort is great with fantastic snorkelling in front of resort. Mt Yasur volcano is a must see. If you are up for a bit of basic adventure, stay in a native treehouse with volcano view. Blue cave is a worthwhile trip.⁰

A coastal gem, with lots of good snorkelling and diving spots. The Blue Cave and MT Yasur tours were fantastic. Tanna is extremely remote so you get a feel for the real Vanuatu. Make sure to meet the local by visiting a school, or doing a heritage tour.

The Volcano Tour was spectacular at night, the Blue Cave Tour was amazing (go in the afternoon, we even had some fun with a pod of dolphins on our way back) and the Cultural Village Tours were really special and educational. Lea's Restaurant in Port Resolution Village was the nicest food we had the whole time we were on Tanna & Whitegrass Resort and Spa was another place where we enjoyed our meals. Where we stayed, it was not easy getting around, best to hire a driver soon as you land on Tanna. Avoid Tanna Evergreen Resort...the staff were lovely but was very badly managed and staff not trained in hospitality! Overall, Tanna is a very special Island and I would definitely come here again.

    Tanna is a beautiful Island.

Tanna is a beautiful Island. The snorkeling isn't as easy or accessible as Santo, but there are some amazing blue holes. When we were there was alot of strong currents and low tides during the day making it hard to snorkel easily. The Volcano is an absolute must, and worth travelling to Tanna just for that. Where the resorts are located such as Evergreen, and White Grass, it is a long ride or car ride to the island attractions, so be prepared for that. 2 or 3 nights is a good amount of time, and consider staying a few nights at different places to get a different kind of experience across the island.

Volcano safari was the primary reason for this trip yet we enjoyed our snorkelling outings right off the beaches. It is not easy to get around the island: there is no local transportation, no buses, few taxis. We had bikes for one day but the roads are narrow and very poor. You need to rely on the local accommodation to get you around. Only places to eat are at your accommodation. We stayed next to 2 other resorts so used their restaurants. Limited menus due to isolated location but the food was very good. Expensive due to its isolation. Locals are very friendly.

Obviously people go there for the volcano. And so did we.

Obviously people go there for the volcano. And so did we. It was a magnificent experience. Makes one feel very small next to a rumbling crater full of lava. Tana island itself is beautiful and has many other sights to see. Just be mindful of the cost to get around.

As we were travelling on a budget and keen to meet the locals Alofa Beach bungalows was the perfect balance of comfort and friendly hospitality. Simple, relaxing and authentic looking bungalows with ensuite, running water and hot showers. The host were lovely and ready to help with whatever we needed. The food was nice. Pancakes for breakfast :) The bungalows are near a long stretch of coral strewn beach typical of Vanuatu and close to the local village. Perfect alternative to the resorts if you're after a more authentic experience.

Perfect small resort, probably my favorite ever, anywhere. The grounds were immaculate, the view is beautiful, the restaurant is very good, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the beds are nice and soft. But the staff and management are OUTSTANDING! We stayed for only three nights but left feeling more like we had been visiting with friends rather than staying in a hotel. The couple who manage it are friendly, funny, extremely helpful and did everything possible to make us feel at home. Highly recommended!!

Well maintained comfortable bungalows with vast ocean views and walk to the ocean. Good food available in the restaurant. Lots of activities arranged by the hotel, which are a bit on the expensive side. The Port Resolution trip is a full ten hour trip covering a bit too much in the time so recommend the 1pm village and volcano trip. The volcano is the must do. If it's calm the snorkeling off the end of the pier is fantastic with the outer reef having a 10m coral wall in great condition.

The hospitality, remoteness and simplicity. Tanna Island is a unique place and an island of a 1000 smiles. Nancy is a wonderful host you went out of her way to show us the wonderful hospitality of the island. We choose this property knowing it was remote where we would be able to just relax away from the busy world and enjoy the simple pleasures of taking a walk on the beach, watching a sunrise and relaxing in a hammock. The banana pancakes were delicious. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

The hotel is very good, they have a nice pool (under maintenance when I was there) and common areas. The room was clean and very comfortable. The food in the restaurant was limited due to a shortage because of the last cyclones but we'll prepared and nice.
