An exciting and hectic city with plenty of history, places of interest abound within walking distance if staying within the Old Town. Try the food its everywhere from street food (pick you places and eat only what you watch being cooked in front of you) to medium and high end restaurants.

Guidebooks such as DK Eyewitness do a much better job...
Guidebooks such as DK Eyewitness do a much better job factually than I could, but for me personally as one who, but for the wisdom of British Prime Minister Harold Wilson, might have been conscripted to go out there and shoot a few peasant farmers, it has been interesting to visit one of the locations that were often in the news in those days, but about which most of us knew nothing. A better understanding is what I went for and in its own way, in my opinion, it rivals Bangkok and Kathmandu for a cultural experience that is both enjoyable and enlightening.

Apart from Old Quarter, some interesting places to check out are walking along the Long Bien bridge, as well as going to train street to watch the train go past as you sit at a cafe along the tracks. I also enjoyed the egg coffee, egg cocoa, salted coffee, and foods like bun cha, pho, etc.

Hanoi is a thriving city, which you get close the lives of the residents. There are many restaurants, markets to visit plus it has many sites to visits. The narrow streets, old buildings, smells of food cooking is a must to see. Highly recommended.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Hanoi Lion...
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Hanoi Lion Hotel in Vietnam, and it was truly a wonderful experience. The hotel is brand new, exuding a pleasant aroma that immediately sets a welcoming tone. Upon our arrival, we were greeted with tea and wet towels, and the reception staff were exceptional—kind, accommodating, and incredibly welcoming.
The check-in process was smooth, and our bellman promptly delivered our bags with great kindness. Throughout our stay, the staff made us feel special with their warm greetings as we entered and exited the hotel. The bellman consistently opened the door for us, a small gesture that I deeply appreciated.
A standout member of the team was Kate, who was immensely helpful during our entire trip to Vietnam. She recommended the Ha Long Bay tour, which turned out to be a fantastic experience. Kate was not only professional but also personable, making me feel like I was interacting with a friend rather than just a hotel staff member. Her ability to answer all my questions thoroughly and kindly was particularly comforting, especially as a foreign traveler.
Additionally, I am grateful to the receptionist for taking care of our capybara when we unfortunately left it in our airport shuttle. Their attentiveness and willingness to help were greatly appreciated.
The hotel's location is excellent—Hanoi is a walkable city bustling with motorcycles and constant horn honking, but surprisingly, the hotel remains completely quiet. It's conveniently near Train Street, and it takes just a 5-7 minute walk to reach the nearby lake. The breakfast was enjoyable, complemented by a lovely view, making mornings at the hotel a delight.
I will definitely choose to stay at the Hanoi Lion Hotel again when I return to Vietnam. My only wish is that the hotel enhances its social media presence to showcase its beauty and highlight its hospitable staff, ensuring that more travelers can discover this gem.

The hotel is very well located, right in the city center, just few steps to the Puppets Theater, Hoan Kiem Lake and Old Quarter. The room was very clean, the beds were very comfortable. Also the breakfast was very tasty and varied (the best hotel's breakfast that we've got until now in Vietnam). The staff was very friendly and helpful, they helped us to organize the transport to the airport very early in the morning in very reasonable price) and prepared for us breakfast to take away. Highly recommended place in Hanoi!
Great place to stay in Hanoi's old quarter which seems to has been renovated just recently.. Room was nice and spacious incl all amenities. Staff was very kind and caring and they'd go above and beyond for customers satisfaction. One could see that COVID hit the Vietnamese tourism industry hard and now there's big competition. Anyway, can recommend the hotel unconditionally and wish them and their staff the best of luck. PS: Breakfast is a plus (Continental and Asian breakfast)
The hotel is fantastic. Our room had a small window and this is a luxury in Hanoi old quarter. The location is perfect, the room was super clean and QUIET, the bed really comfy and the staff was welcoming. Special mention to Justin who made us feel super special. The lady at the reception gave us the best recommendation for Bun Cha. Unfortunaly we couldn't have breakfast because we left too early, and the staff made sure that we had some food to take away. Just brilliant.
This was a great hotel in the middle of the Old Quarter. Close to many restaurants, massage places and tourist sites. The staff were wonderful. Beds were very comfortable. Rooms were clean. And the breakfast was amazing. We had the best homemade yogurt and fruit. They also have eggs to order, hot food, salad and Vietnamese dishes. We really enjoyed our stay here. Highly recommended if you’re in Hanoi. Violet takes care of your every need.
Very nice, comfortable, clean and spacious rooms. Comfy and spacious bathroom. AC working perfectly. Staff excellent, helpful, with proper english skills. Breakfast served in cafe just beside hotel - plenty to choose from - both traditional vietnamese and "european". Hotel in the old quarter, close to all you need. I would recommend this hotel to anybody visiting Hanoi.
