Marfa is such a cute town. It was our second visit. I definitely recommend Chinati if you like art. The Donald Judd exhibit was amazing. The history of the site is also interesting. It was a Nazi POW work camp. So the juxtaposition of the clean lines and interesting art of Judd in a site that had such a disturbing original use was interesting. Also the lines of the building with the lines of the works and then the windows to the landscape beyond was fantastic. I'd see the outdoor works last visit, but I like the indoor even more. The shops and galleries in town were super cute. We ate at a great restaurant (James Beard nominee in Marfa), had coffee in a lovely coffee shop and lunch in a great sandwich place. And of course, Prada Marfa is worth a pic on your way out of town!

Just staying part of a day and overnight. Enjoyed the bagels at Aster Marfa and lunch at Angels. Both were small intimate restaurants with good food. Very quaint but not fancy. Friendly atmosphere of locals and tourists.

I would not recommend a trip to Marfa unless there is a specific interest in something there. They have a music festival in September(?)each year. The town is kind of a failed art experiment. Food and service at the Hotel Paisano was great. A great Dairy Queen. You can see everything you want to see in half a day tops.

2-3 days is just enough to enjoy Marfa and get a taste of Big Bend. Just make sure to plan your meals and shopping in advance! Most restaurants and stores are only open a handful of hours each day. Go to Para Llevar for incredible wood-fired pizza & Sentinel for great coffee/vibes! There are no public EV chargers as of Dec-2023 unfortunately.

This is a town between two worlds.

This is a town between two worlds. One is an up-and-coming art center populated by creative types who see something special in Marfa's old bones. The other is Tex-Mex townspeople who seem totally at home in their high-desert West Texas landscape. The two groups appear to like each other a lot, which gives Marfa a surprisingly high-energy feel. The artists have found something unique and as a result the natives feel unique.

Desert oasis for artists and art lovers.

Desert oasis for artists and art lovers. I recommend making reservations online ahead of time to plan gallery visits or you may feel a bit lost. The Prada exibit is a 25 minute drive outside of town so plan accordingly. The best time to visit is the weekend because most restaurants are open Fri-Sun.
