When we arrived, the host placed us in Casa da Urze 3 as it was just me and my girlfriend and we did not need the extra bed that Casa da Urze 2 had. We were both still very happy with this! The house was incredibly cute and cosy - had a view over the mountains, a lovely fireplace that we lit every night (and which warmed up the house wonderfully and we had a fresh bucket of logs and pine cones to use every evening), we had a TV where we could pair up with my laptop and watch films, the bathroom was pretty and absolutely clean as well, the kitchen had everything we needed, the breakfast that was included was small but filling enough (and we could always ask for an extra bit of bread & etc), the lunch food cooked by the host was delicious, the hosts themselves were very nice and caring and always available, and to finish off, Talasnal is an absolute picturesque gem of a place to come spend a few days in, hiking around through the beautiful natural routes nearby and disconnecting from the busy routine we all feel overwhelmed by from time to time! I will absolutely love to come here again, thank you so much to Casa da Urze and its hosts for this wonderful experience, it was a pleasure!

The views are outstanding and the sunsets are spectacular. The place is really quiet. The staff is nice and friendly and try to help you in any way they can (although on weekends there is no one there). Everything is extremely clean. The property and apartment are beautifully designed (which regarding the latter does not necessarily mean comfortable). The kitchen has everything you need but a washing machine (although there is one on the property that it seems can be used if required). We did not have any of the issues about electricity mentioned by other comments and power worked seamlessly (providing you do reasonable use of it).

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful hostel. It feels more like a bed and breakfast than a hostel if you reserve a private room. The room was impeccably clean, very comfortable, and breakfast was quite satisfying! The owners were also so thoughtful and kind, and take amazing care of the property! Even though it was a little rainy, the hiking nearby was really pretty, and it’s easy to hike or drive to explore a few of the schist villages from Lousã. We’d be thrilled to return!!

The main reason to stay here is for walking the national forest trails and visit the Shicht villages which are a wonderful experience, Be advised reaching them is via a continuous, twisty mountain road that can be exhausting, So we only visited one--Candal--which we thoroughly enjoyed. There is nothing in Lousa itself so consider this area a relaxing stop for outdoor enjoyment that is a great and welcome contrast to busy Lisbon and Porto.

The old parts of Lousa on the hill all 100 to 200 years old and all just a few minutes from the hotel but there are few actual restaurants mainly cafes. The impressive church Square and the ballet school building are both near the Octant Palacio Hotel

Lousa is centrally located to explore the surrounding areas such as the shale stone village Talasnal, or nearby Gois and Arganil. Nature is at the forefront here and offers ample opportunities for hiking and exploring.

This location of the house is off the busy tourist routes and is very beautiful. The village and surrounding areas are exceptional. There are very few shops locally - which is great but generally anything you need can be bought in Lousa (12 km from the house) so don't forget anything :-).

Lousa in general needs to up its information game.
Lousa in general needs to up its information game. It was hard to find the tourist office in Lousa and when did find it it was closed.
We were able to get more info in Talasnal but not everything we needed. Tried to walk some trails but maps/trail info was incomplete.

I only spent one night there, in January. Incredibly heavy frost on the car which took ages to scrape off. I didn't particularly like the feel of the town, but that is always down to personal preference. The people I met were uniformly friendly and helpful.
Warm and welcoming Maria treats you like family. Setting is on peaceful property in the countryside outside Lousa. We stayed in the separate small cottage which was comfortable and would highly recommend. Quiet and a nice change from busy Lisbon. Exceptional breakfast each morning with fresh figs picked by Maria and homemade jams she makes from fruits grown on property along with pastries, fruits, meat and cheese; selection of breads, etc. Great value for the money. Note Maria only accepts cash--no credit cards.

You would never know from the front facade what a modern, and tastefully renovated property Casa Das Condessinhas is. The hotel was lovely, the owner Julia and her staff went above and beyond. Beds super comfy, breakfast perfect (with homemade cake!), a pool (too cold for us to use end of September), gym, and secure, free, onsite parking. Convenient to explore the Schist villages (we went to Piódão and Foz d’Egua) and hiked the 5k circular Talasnal/Castelo Lousã trail nearby.
Nelio is a terrific host, very responsive and helpful! The studio is brand new, VERY clean and has great towels. Location is terrific, too! Spacious and pleasant, nice light, good AC, good cooking facilities for a solo stay. Really appreciated the excellent service and kindness. Terrific restaurants across the street and down the block - try Taberna Burguesa, Villa Lausana and the hotel restaurant. Sushi Taco also lovely.
Perfect location within walking distance to many restaurants, bars, cafes, bakeries, grocery stores and city centre. Large, comfortable, bright and clean apartment with all necessary amenities. Host was extremely helpful with many recommendations for dining and activities. Lousan is a great village for hiking and outdoor adventures and dining. Parking on side, free wifi, smart tv.
Everything about this hotel was amazing, best hotel I have ever stayed at and best hotel breakfast I have had and I travel a lot! and the staff were super attentive. I asked for a crib for our baby and when we got to our room he had a crib and his own little padded tent on the floor and a complimentary toy. I will definitely be back here! Can't recommend this place enough
Everything about this Casa which is less a hotel and more of a home was wonderful. We felt so welcome and each staff member was caring and well informed and seemed genuinely interested is answering any questions we might have had.
Room and bed were very well done and breakfast was very good. The best value for the money one could possibly have.
The hotel was absolutely lovely, and it is perfectly situated for exploring the nearby Schist villages.
All the staff we met were very helpful, and the morning using the electric bikes available at the hotel was very good fun.
Thoroughly recommend.
We absolutely loved everything about our stay. Such a unique and beautiful experience. The food and service was unmatched. We have stayed at many resorts and hotel all over the world and this may be my best experience ever.
The location in a historic restored village and in a remote location in the Lousa mountains was incredible. The fact that it was also an artist residency was a bonus for us but our primary reason for visiting.
I cannot remember a single time when I repeated the location for my holidays, let alone the property/hotel. I was in Candal in this exact home in October, and came came last week.... I guess it means something.
Maria João was a wonderful host. She was so sweet provided everything we needed. You can tell alot of love and care was put into her house. She even gave us a parting gift. A book about the history of Lousã.
Warm reception, fresh grapes to pick from the vines. A short drive to Lousa and other small cities. Very quiet place, with stunning stars and night skies. Very blissful breakfast and peaceful atmosphere.
Delightful little hideaway in a romantic old stone village. Best to drive from the direction of Lousã as the road from the south is unpaved for several kilometres.
