Small settlement with oodles of history. Quaint and the locals are super lovely. Take the time to wander the settlement, read everything and chat to the locals as they are full of knowledge. Pub is the hub, as is usually the case in a small town. Food is exceptional and hospitality is second to none. If you haven't been, get in!! It's a joy to behold in the middle of nowhere. Breathe in the freshness, exhale and relax. Key note ... learn how to say the name correctly!

A quaint accomodation in the centre of Whangamomona with everything you need. Wander around the small village and spend a few hours in the local hotel chatting to the locals as they are very friendly and welcoming. A roadie that is iconic New Zealand.

Loved it, the drive in from Stratford and out to Taumaranui was great. Loved the scenery, the pub was closed for renovations so we had toast for tea, thankfully provided by hosts as there was nowhere to get anything else and we had not seen their message about the pub until we got there. Would of loved to peruse the quirky arty crafty shop across the road but it was closed. The Old Butchery was lovely to stay in, beds were lovely and comfy and loved having the roaring fire. Have to drive very carefully on the roads in and out as in places they are very narrow and when we went through, extremely icy. The very narrow tunnel on the road to Taumaranui was a lovely surprise. We arrived in the dark and left early the next morning so our visit was brief but essential if wanting to enjoy the Forgotten Highway.
