Cute little town, great for a young small family.

Cute little town, great for a young small family. We went to the park, with the splash pad, playground, swimming pool and the Sports court was perfect for our energetic kids. They got to play and we got to relax.

Handy to bigger cities Hastings and Napier. Lovely setting.

Handy to bigger cities Hastings and Napier. Lovely setting. The Vicarage gets direct morning sun and looks out to the hills. Town has plenty of facilities. A bonus is the TukiTuki trail which can be walked as far as next town Waipawa along the beautiful river. Easy walking distances around the town.

Very limited eating establishments available and the two that were suggested were unable to accommodate us. One said they were full, in spite of an almost empty dining room and the other said they were closing as it was a quiet night. It was 7pm.Attitude of staff very poor and NOT helpful. The Tui Pub staff were an exception . Cheerful and very helpful

En route from Wellington to Gisborne, Waipukurau is around the halfway mark and a convenient place for an overnight stop to break the journey. Of particular note is the Copper Pot restaurant which offers rather more than the usual Pizza or Chicken 'n Chips, and a variety of Craft Beers. Service was prompt and friendly and the food excellent. Just up the road at Waipawa is a Settlers' Museum and, one day, we'll actually stop for a 'look-see'. The butchery across the road is renowned for its sausages.

Waipukurau is a great little town with a lovely country feel. I have passed through many times on my travels and never have stayed the night. Ate in a great Indian restaurant and food was divine. Only trouble was I ate too much. Very easy to get round the town.
