Martinborough has a lot ot offer - good restaurants, interesting shops, a quaint villagey atmosphere and no end of vineyards and wine cellars to visit. When you go, make time to drive down to Lake Ferry and have brunch or a beer at the Lake Ferry Hotel. This is country New Zealand at its best.

The highlights of our trip was stocking up on Greytown gin (I know it's not in the borough but close), moinsuer fox in Greytown, a dinky and eclectic 2nd had shop with lots of retro and vintage goodness, where we found some very cool items for our home. Wakefield antiques (another second hand store) where I found a funky resin ring and my partner preceded to banter over a bike he had from childhood that he wants and the owner definately doesn't want to sell (running joke now)....Our accomodation at Parehua was fabulous and the cherry on top was being able to purchase 2023 Pinot Gris from Luna estate. I had a glass with dinner (which might I add was top notch fare!!) one of the most delicious and Lucious Pinot Gris I've tried to date.

Martinborough is the jewel in the crown of the Deep South of the North Island of NZ. It is a beautiful quaint rural town which is ideal to visit if you want a peaceful retreat amongst vineyards, wineries, fabulous restaurants and a thriving cafe culture.
I highly recommend visits to Cape Palliser Lighthouse and Seal Colony followed by Lake Ferry then back to Nga Waka for wine tasting and superb pizza lunch.
Nara Cafe is the go-too for coffee full stop.
A stay at the Wine Shed polishes the experience perfectly.
We'll be back!

Unfortunately the hotel did not meet expectations. The floor slooped badly in the bedroom and we both experienced a sense of dizzy spells. We both snubbed our toes on the uneven floor between the bedroom and bathroom. We considered the bath dangerious as it was slipperly and no hand rails. Staff were rather unfriendly. We paid what was to us a lot of money for our wedding anniversary night and didnt enjoy the hotel at all . Always wanted to stay there but would not again and would not recommend it.
Great staying in Martinborough at Swan House with great and lovely hosts.
It was a really nice apartment where you can find everything you want also the breakfast was great and we got some nice advices from our hosts regarding visiting some vineyards.
Even one day/night was to short I have to admit to stay in this great atmosphere.
Gracious hotel, beautifully decorated and cared for. Bedroom was lovely with a New bathroom, and very clean. Comfortable beds with good quality linens. The staff were professional, helpful and friendly. The library with fireplace was a lovely touch and a nice place to spend a couple of hours.
