Haast River Motels & Holiday Park, hotel in Haast

Haast River Motels & Holiday Park offers a guest lounge, a shared kitchen and BBQ facilities. All accommodation features a refrigerator and tea/coffee making facilities.

It has everything you would expect from a place located in a remote area. The communal kitchen is large and clean, and the four sides are blocked by walls and windows, so the kitchen is quiet and warm even when it is windy and rainy.

It was a great base to check out South Westland from.

It was a great base to check out South Westland from. We found lots more walks we could have done if we had more days there. Great drive up to Franz Josef and back in a day. The history and geography are amazing. Stunning scenery.

Some really good coastal walks set up by DOC.

Some really good coastal walks set up by DOC. Some great board walks and coastal walks of various lengths. Peaceful area with most tourists not taking advantage of the walks and stopping in car parks for a quick look only. Warning: don't go off road near beachs. We towed someone out of the sand!

Haast is a definite stop and you must visit Jackson's Bay. Although itis a long way from Haast its a lovely drive and an interesting place when you get there. Make sure you take insect repellant as it is a MUST. We ate at the hotel restaurant. Good selection of mains. Lots of walks.

Haast requires some commitment to not just blast through to Wanaka or the glaciers. The visitors centre and the boardwalk (on way to Jackson Bay) are both worth an hour of your time. Plus all the points on the map just before and after Knights Point, Ship creek walks x2, waterfalls. An overnight stay is recommended to have two brilliant travel days. Take snacks and a flask though, it's remote and you may not find something open when you are hungry. And sandfly repellent, and long clothes!

We only stayed in Haast for 2 nights as a stopover between Queenstown and Franz Josef. Although there is not a lot to do apart from various walks and some fishing we did do a day trip down to Jackson Bay. A lovely little village on the edge of the ocean and they have a great seafood restaurant.

Jackson's Bay was probably beautiful in the sun, it was pouring down whilst we were there!! There is nothing to see at Haast- The beach isOK but there are the awful black bitingfies in their droves, other than that it is just a place to break a journey if necessary.

Great host, she is very sociable with each guests and takes good care of them, keeps kitchen always neat and clean, loves gardening and often watering plants in garden lounge, guests enjoy to sit and relax here. Best location in Haast township, supermarket ON THE SPOT 30sec., Spiker Cafe 1min., Restaurant The Hard Antler 2min., daytime crapes cart and whitebait carts come near here, intercity bus stop is in front of hostel entrance. Hostel has 3 bikes, I biked to Jackson Bay and enjoyed this good bike.

Welcomed by the lovely host who was very friendly and showed me to the motel suite. She was very helpful and shared that a great meal could be had at the local pub The Hard Antler literally next door. She was right it was a great meal and a fantastic pub with great atmosphere. The suite was very comfortable and decorated with love. The garden view was lovely and the garden was well maintained. Very nice motel worth stopping at when travelling the west coast.

Fabulous staff. Local pub organised collection and return which was fantastic. The cray pot at Jackson bay was also a lovely surprise. The beach is just over road and stretches for miles and miles. Great sunsets.

The cabin is located several km south of Haast not far from the beach. There was minimal road traffic and everything was provided for, including a washing machine and dryer, 2 bedrooms and a well-equipped kitchen.
