Sortland is the main city and the center of life in the Vesteralen archipelago, meaning that it has good shopping possibilities. It is not particularly attractive as a city but a good stopover. Its pecularity is an artistic move to paint buildings in blue, in order to belie its name, meaning 'the Black Land'.
There are not so many places for eating out, but we had a pleasant dinner at "Du Verden", located near the quay in the downtown area.
Staying in a cabin such as Bo Huset was an excellent experience. On our road trip through northern Norway, we experienced hotels and lodges, but not a cabin. Nicely situated in the countryside, Bo Huset is a great place to stay in order to experience the area. And when you come home you will enjoy the silence.

A hotel with unique character, showing very personal attitude of the owner and the team. Well-designed interior with unique touches like the carved room doors. Perfect location for walking, cycling and driving, huge free parking at the back side of the building. We particularly enjoyed the Sult restaurant adjacent to the hotel, and the library bar - don’t skip it when you stay here! :)
The location was convenient to Highway 82. The paid parking was right outside the hotel door. The room was modern. The breakfast had a lot of variety & offered take away boxes to pack for a snack later. The front desk & bar employees were very friendly & proficient.
We were able to find an easy hiking trail 5 minutes driving from the property.
The little house provided something more than a hotel room. Located right next to the hotel for easy access to the restaurant and other hotel facilities. The restored home had all the modern touches while still preserving the unique feel from it’s age. We throughly enjoyed our stay there.
Great place. Land lord was very nice. Immediately made us comfortable in his property. Place is very scenic. Near by fjord, barbecue place on shore. It is green everywhere. Very low traffic during our stay. Very good roads, not far from Sortland.
Business-hotel in the middle of the center of Sortland, which large windows with a beautiful view over the sea. Nice staff that gave us an upgrade. Breakfast was outstanding, tasty and delicious - all again with the view over the water!
the big new hotel was full so we got a room in this older building which had few facilities, but you could use all the facilities at the main hotel, including going there for an excellent breakfast. And it was half the price.
Although the hotel is located in the harbour, we had a great view at the sea and mountains. Staff is friendly and helpful. From here it is easy to do all kinds of activities on the Lofoten
