This hotel and its staff are wonderful. The linens and towels are top quality. The room was beautifully decorated and had a great view of the water. The restaurant was delicious, and the breakfast was next level. I don't actually eat in the morning, but I did here. They had vegetables and fruit that could be blended for a fresh juice, incredible pastries, meats and cheeses, pancakes, cereal--everything. The location was central and within walking distance of bars, restaurants, bakeries, and museums. Parking was easy and free.

The location which is central to everything is the edge of this hotel. It’s so close to shops, restaurants like kfc and spur (try their nachos I swear!) and just a quick 5-minute walk to The Tug Restaurant by the jetty which offers some of the best sunset views in the world, best wines, and best steaks! The rooms in the hotel are pretty basic by the way but if you’re in Swakop as a tourist you won’t really be staying in the room all day. Any tour company doing the sandwich harbor tour can pick you up from the hotel. Their breakfast was amazing with lots of options! I would definitely stay in this hotel again. The staff here are the best and they are approachable and can arrange everything for you.

Breakfast was good. The staff were very friendly. My room did not have an aircon and as it was summer, mornings in the room can be very warm. Otherwise the facilities were good value for money.

The Hotel Schweizerhaus is an older hotel in the heart of historic Swakopmund, within a few blocks of a very nice beach, yet right downtown. This review is based on a three night stay in May of 2025.
I was extremely impressed with this hotel. The staff were kind, professional, and helpful. The hotel itself is almost "vintage," in that it is older but in very good shape. I had a large family room with a sea view and a balcony. It was really quite large.
The hotel's location really can't be beat. It is a few minutes walk from most of the good restaurants in town, from grocery stores, bars, and tourist shops.
The hotel hosts a charming cafe/patisserie that is very much a center of social life in Swakopmund. It has indoor and outdoor seating and was full much of the time I was there. Breakfast at the hotel is very good, and people come from outside the hotel to have breakfast there.
I would recommend this hotel unreservedly to anyone staying in Swakopmund. In fact, I already have recommended it to many colleagues.

Staff was very accommodating. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. We had a very good evening meal at the SALT restaurant as well as breakfast each morning. We also appreciated the location being a bit away from Swakop and we had secured parking as well.

The crystal museum is a must see. Stadtmitte Cafe serves exceptional food (well worth the wait).
The manageress at the Mermaid Casino was extremely rude, impolite and disrespectful when we attempted to leave the premises with a can of Coca Cola that we had purchased within the premises much to the embarrassment of the security personnel who apologised profusely to us on our departure.

Swakopmund was our favorite city in all of Namibia.
Swakopmund was our favorite city in all of Namibia. It is small enough to enjoy, big enough to have varied shopping, the beach area was superior to the desert beaches en route to Walvis Bay, plus a variety of excellent restaurants. Parking was very easy and safe at the Strand Hotel. The local crafts area was enormous. We walked EVERYWHERE once we parked our vehicle. My wife bought jewellery there. We maintained situational awareness but no one tried to steal from us.

I really enjoyed my time in Swakopmund.
I really enjoyed my time in Swakopmund. The jetty, beach walkways, and little curio shops were some of my favorite spots, there’s something magical about watching the sunset by the ocean. I tried a few places to eat, but The Tug and Ocean Cellar were definite highlights. The seafood was amazing and the vibe was just right. Getting around was super easy; everything was within walking distance and the town felt safe and welcoming. As a solo traveler, I loved the freedom to explore at my own pace. Whether it was beach walks, popping into cafés, visiting the museum, or just sitting by the ocean with a book. It was peaceful, refreshing, and exactly what I needed.

We enjoyed visiting the museum and walking out the jetty.
However if tourism is going to flourish the locals will need to learn to stop pestering visitors to buy such things as key rings. The system of tipping someone to look after your car is a real turn off and means people thing twice about stopping at all.

I enjoyed taking a walk on the promenade where there are a number of activities one can engage in at the beach i.e. canoeing, swimming, beach volleyball etc.
I spent one afternoon there and visited the Museum, had ice-cream, took a walk on the promenade, waited to watch the sunset and then grabbed some pizza at Lighthouse Restaurant. There are some good restaurants on the promenade and the other one colleagues and I tried was Brewer and Butcher.
A lot of the places in Swakopmund are quite close and navigation was easy. Due to proximity to the Atlantic and the Namib Desert, the weather changes at any time and therefore one should always have a sweater ready :)

A spacious room with kitchenette and seating area, sparkling clean and well equipped. There is parking space right outside the apartment and within a gated courtyard. The accommodation is ideally placed for a short walk into town and to the beach. We were only able to stay for one night but would highly recommend and will definitely stay again when next in Swakopmund. David was very welcoming and helpful with lots of good local recommendations and advice.
