Historic Melaka (or Malacca) is the capital of the Malaysian state of the same name, home to one of the country’s first sultanates. The replica of the sultan’s palace is one of the city’s top attractions.
The end of the sultanate came with the Portuguese conquest of Melaka in the 16th century. Reminders of this period include part of A Famosa fort, and there is also a fort built by the next settlers – the Dutch. Several Dutch churches also remain, including Christ Church with its pinkish façade.
Nowadays, Melaka is a melting pot of various cultures, and Chinese temples – such as wonderful Cheng Hoon Teng – sit happily alongside Hindu temples and mosques. The most spectacularly located of the latter is Masjid Selat (or Malacca Straits Mosque), on stilts above waters lapping an offshore island.
Many Melaka hotels on Booking.com are near the promenade lining the narrow city beach, and others are near more secluded beaches in the suburbs. The Melaka River splits the city into 2, and the further inland you travel along it, the more traditional the buildings become.
Just before the river’s first bend is Jonker Street, the heart of Chinatown and popular for its night markets, while a good few miles to the north is Melaka Airport in the Batu Berendam district.

Ever since local authorities closed the main road towards Mahkota. And also some access street road near Jonker walk during weekends. This has made some inconveniences to motorists. Lot of road diversions and spiking of car park charges. All these to me otherwise most of us inconveniently travelling around the said area. Hopefully some improvement can be done in future to come. Thank you for reading this.

Local Souvenir stalls were not fairly treated, and the shops was not given fair chances to be visited and appreciated by all tourist local and foreign alike. If only the distribution cakes fairly opened up, perhaps buyers and customers from abroad as well as locals can be exposed to better offers and competitive chances from souvenirs sellers in the overall atmosphere.

The city is clean and offer a number of interesting tourist attractions and variety of food outlets. Jonker walk, Melaka river cruise and Malaysia Heritage studio and Kg Morten are few places worth putting on visitor’s list. However, I think the Malaysia heritage studio seems somewhat lacking the truly Malaysian heritage as visitors are greeted by the wax statues of Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Mr Bean wearing local costumes. We enjoyed visiting some of the traditional houses, but there are some that were disappointing (eg Rumah pahang, terengganu, johor). The performance was fun and enjoyable.
There are a number of museums and historical buildings that
look interesting too nearby Jonker walk.

Melaka was magical 🪄🪄🪄
Melaka was magical 🪄🪄🪄
Besides being a heritage city it was alive and bustling with excitement at every corner - like walking the streets of Paris.
I loved the river ride at night. Makes one feel like you on the Venice waters ( just not a clean river ).
Their souvenir photos were however very expensive and the tour recording was not clearly understood .
The Melaka Straits mosque was really special.
I would definitely like to be back.
Lots of bargain shopping 🛍️
I had an amazing time at the Amber Cove! The apartment's amenities, which included free private parking and free Wi-Fi, made my stay even better. The outdoor pool and round-the-clock security added an air of luxury, and the mini-market on-site was really handy.
The garden worked as a peaceful retreat. I felt at home because of the welcoming environment for families. My top pick for a hotel in Malacca is the Amber Cove Melaka Hotel. Strongly advised for a fun visit
Loved the room and the bathroom! It was spacious enough for 2 pax. The best part is the bathtub i would say. Bed was comfy as well. A nice view of the malacca city was an add on. Swimming pool was biggg however the wind was crazy! It was so cold.
The breakfast was slightly disappointing actually, the quality of the breakfast can be improved and variety of pastries should be added considering that it is a 4 star hotel. Overall, me and my partner had a great stay.
The hotel is located nearby the Malacca river, but it’s very quiet. The staffs are really kind and helpful. Once I locked the key in the luggage and couldn’t open my luggage, I messaged the front table and they sent a staff to my room to offer the help as soon as possible, and finally helped me open the luggage. Although it was late night and out of their working hour when I went to them for help, they still respond very quickly, I was appreciate for that!
UNFORTUNATELY we are being scammed by BOOKING.COM. arrived there just to be informed OYO MORTEN VILLA no longer accept 3rd PARTY booking such as Bookin.com/ Agoda, etc. Booking.com should have remove this accomodation from their list. wasting our time. We had to find another hotel around Malacca with expensive rate because it was last minute booking. PLS dont book OYO MORTEN VILLA thru BOOKING.COM or you will end up just like me !!!
A very nice facility with the state of art room locking doors. It’s got a swimming pool on the 23rd floor that overlooks much of Malacca and then the Straits beyond with container shipping moving to and fro. The hotel is in a good location within a 6 minute walking distance of Mahkota Parade shopping mall and nearby Dataran Pahlawan shopping mall as well.
Being staying at different homestays, Air BnB and hotels at different countries and also in Malaysia. This is by far the most excellent lodging. It is clean, spacious, has a good view, comfortable, full of amenities, even comes with Cuckoo water dispenser. Location is awesome too, just across is the Mahkota Parade shipping centre.
Everything was clean, tidy, and very comfortable. Great stay in Malacca outside the hustle of the main streets and just 5 minutes away by taxi or grab. Comfortable beds and great bathroom with separate bath and shower.
Great value for money, we've been in other hotels for about this price in Malaysia and this one was the best.
The bathroom has no space to place personal items for cleaning, make up for my wife. My wife had to go up to the loft to do her make up. There was no utensils in the room, just the plates and cups. The location made it to get around the town of malacca even though I used Google map. The linens are clean, room is very clean.
The room just enough for 7 person of us. With 1 queen bed. 2 single bed.. also have 2 set of futon bed n xtra pillow.. room was clean.. complete kitchen. Satisfied.
Located middle of town.. 10 min to Jonker Walk by car.
Hotel room n apt used same lift. Swimming pool so big..
Love that the hotel were near the shopping malls(Dataran Pahlawan and Makhota Parade). Jonker Walk was also within 20 to 30 mins walk from the hotel. Definitely would want to be back again on a trip to Malacca to visit all the historical sites.
This is my second stay-cation @ Bayview Hotel. I didn't want to spend time looking for other hotels because this hotel is very convenient and strategically located in town. Easy access to parking too.
Im malaccan. I stay whenever i come hometown coz now i live in KL. So location wise okay. About the room n services. Not as good as they were in the beginning. Now i think twice before booking.
The hotel is very near to the mall.It is convenient
For breakfast it has many choices to choose very nice. This is my 4th time stay at hatten hotel when I go Malacca..
Affordable breakfast rate and convenient bath tub. The winning point is the location at Ayer Keroh which less traffic jammed as compared to hotels at the town.
Within walking distance to the Malacca old town area. Received an email prior to arrival detailing how to get entry to the hotel's car park which was helpful.
This hotel was near to Malacca river cruise station and walking along with river was beautiful. However river water is not that clean and smells a lot.
