Historic Melaka (or Malacca) is the capital of the Malaysian state of the same name, home to one of the country’s first sultanates. The replica of the sultan’s palace is one of the city’s top attractions.
The end of the sultanate came with the Portuguese conquest of Melaka in the 16th century. Reminders of this period include part of A Famosa fort, and there is also a fort built by the next settlers – the Dutch. Several Dutch churches also remain, including Christ Church with its pinkish façade.
Nowadays, Melaka is a melting pot of various cultures, and Chinese temples – such as wonderful Cheng Hoon Teng – sit happily alongside Hindu temples and mosques. The most spectacularly located of the latter is Masjid Selat (or Malacca Straits Mosque), on stilts above waters lapping an offshore island.
Many Melaka hotels on Booking.com are near the promenade lining the narrow city beach, and others are near more secluded beaches in the suburbs. The Melaka River splits the city into 2, and the further inland you travel along it, the more traditional the buildings become.
Just before the river’s first bend is Jonker Street, the heart of Chinatown and popular for its night markets, while a good few miles to the north is Melaka Airport in the Batu Berendam district.

A place filled with many interesting historical sites and local specialties. Very suitable for a breakaway from the environment in most cities.
Driving is a little challenging on the narrow road around the major attractions, further compounded by the fact that it is crowded with other tourists.

Only a short bus ride from KL. Most of the main sights are centred around the town square and all are easily walkable.
The night market and the night river cruise were our highlights. There are plenty of places to eat and to shop.

Loved that it is mostly a preserved heritage area, but with all modern amenities accessible for a tourist / traveler. Loved the experience of Jonker Walk and the river cruise. Missed out on the night activities due to the short length of our stay but sure that it would have added to the positive impression we have of Melaka. Do look out for the very refreshing watermelon drink they serve on Jonker Walk (ice cold and blended in the watermelon itself!). Also. if you do not have your own vehicle, get an accommodation from the city center and you can easily walk around to the popular sites or take a whole day boat pass to hop on and off from different areas!

I hadn't been to Melaka for almost 20 years, so wasn't sure how much it had changed, but I can now say that it was amazing! The food is as good as ever (better, even?). The people are friendly and laid back, and always have time to chat. There's so much to see and do, so much history to take in. If you're coming from Europe or North America, you'll be very pleasantly surprised at how reasonable everything is here. Getting around is super easy, quick and cheap with Grab. A 5-10 minute trip will cost you just a couple of pounds. The choice of food is incredible – from Malay, Indian, Nonya, Chinese – you'll be able to try something new at every meal, and it will be very reasonably priced, freshly prepared and delicious. You're never far from a great food court, street vendor or food shop. There are some wonderful little shops off the main Jonker Walk, selling everything from incense, exotic teas, sundries, antiques, artwork, hand-carved wooden seals and signs and local culinary delicacies. Some food Highlights for me include the Laksa at Medan Selera Tengkera hawker centre (made to a recipe perfected over 40 years). Hainaness Mutton (The shop has been making delicious food in this location for 80-odd years). Cendol Jam Besar in Red Square (for the best Durian Cendol). East & West Rendezvous by Aunty Grace (For delicious freshly hand made Nonya Kueh – traditional and delicious sweet treats). Halle Herbal Tea House on Jalan Hang Kasturi (They do an amazing hot or cold herbal tea (Jamu) brewed from 24 medicinal herbs). Lin Neo Delight – Best Nonya food. Yi Yuan Dim Sim House (Amazing selection of Dim Sum). Cash Chong Restaurant for their Yong Tau Foo. Capital Seafood Longkang Siham (huge selection of seafood and shellfish grilled on charcoal). Beh Leh Hainan Satay (very popular Satay restaurant, with their signature pineapple (not peanut!) sauce). Tuan Yuan Chicken Rice Ball restaurant (unbelievable value delicious chicken rice).

Melaka is a 2-hour drive from Kuala Lumpur. This place is rich in culture and history. Ideal place for vacation and relaxation. It can be hot like every day but prepare for rain anytime. You can find a lot of local food from Chinese, Malay, Indian, Thailand and many more. I recommend you visit and add to your bucket list.

Eco Tree Hotel is in a central location in Malacca town. If you self-drive its great because you can access all points of interest. The room (718) was comfy for a twin sharing room. All amenities provided. Small issue - light bulbs in the room located above ceiling were blown. Not an inconvenience but attention to these details will certainly make the guests stay more pleasant. The in-room bathroom facility was good, clean and powerful shower. I will certainly make this a stay should I visit Malacca again.
I stayed here 2nd time within 1month. I love the facilities especially I get to charge my electric car. The staffs are very friendly and helpful. I forgot my phone charger and they lend it to me to use until o check out. I will definitely come back again. The room facing Malacca Town is so much quieter as no booming sound from the club near the hotel (facing the sea view).
Hotel location, able to accomodate late check in, housekeeping service, reception service, room service was superb!!! Ive stayed this hotel for about 4yrs whenever i come to Malacca. Marvellous customer service, rooms & toilet was clean. Definately recommended!!!!
The location of the hotel which is not at the city centre makes the hotel easily to get to and less traffic hassle since Malacca is known to have heavy traffic on their roads.
