The service was excellent. The onsens, both the mixed by the river and the separate out door were great. The meals were outstanding. Do the half board. It’s worth it.

Superb location in historic center! Great price, simple, clean with access to breakfast. You are greeted and assisted by the former owner who now manages the property. She is kind and solicitous of her guests’ needs and goes the extra mile to ensure their comfort. The walk up is a bit steep but we are 3 women in our 70s and managed.
There are two onsens for guests. The one for women is bright and cheerful.

Loved the peace and quiet after spending time in busy Tokyo. The morning markets and the Old Town were relaxing to stroll through and the locals were very helpful. We would definitely stay here again. Such a beautiful historical town.

Because i didn't know how good this Ryokan is i just planed the stay for one night. Probably it could be extended for at least one more night or two. Since we stayed there only one night we didn't plan to go much around.

It has been on my wish list, and we were there at the perfect time: Matsuri and cherry blossoms!!
I liked that it was not a big city. Hikes in the mountains/hills would have been nice, and the Hida Village was a special feature.

Takayama was my favourite destination in Japan - it is beautiful, a little calmer than some of the other tourist attraction cities and there was lots to see and do. I wish I had stayed longer. The espresso from the riverside market was the best coffee I had in Japan!

We highly recommend a visit.
We highly recommend a visit. The city is beautiful and provides a respite from the larger cities. The sound of the river seems to permeate the city. The flowering of cherry trees is magnificent during theSpring Festival. Some beautiful shrines and Edo period buildings, including a museum that provides an opportunity to walk through the living quarters and government administrative buildings and identifies the day to day functioning of a local government officials.
There is a wonderful, ‘tiny’ bar near the Retro Museum that is a place to hang out and meet other travelers and converse with the owner. His creative cocktails are really delicious. Loved the outside and upstairs seating as well.
This city knows how to welcome its guests with benches and a customer friendly attitude. Wonderful experience.

Takayama is a beautiful town.
Takayama is a beautiful town. It has a well preserved old district with historic buildings. We visited during spring and took a day trip to the ropeway. It would look amazing during winter. The people were super friendly & enjoyed tourists company.
As a first timer to experience Ryokan, we are spoiled with the modern facilities there (hot spring, breakfast and the amenities that been prepared, the staff is so helpful, one of them take their time to let us know how to use coin laundry. And the girl that we met on the check out day, she gave us a ride to Takayama station because I came back to return the adaptor that I lent during the stay. Even though the ryokan is traditional culture but Ichinomatsu can create a modern clean that make our stay feel more comfortable, easy and relaxing
The decorations and design of the hotel is on point. It is a mix of modern and traditional Japanese style. All the facilities are new and functional well. The common spa is very nice , you can get ice cream after a hot bath. The location is very good, it is near Takayama old town. The highlight is the free drink after 5pm! You can get the Sake tasting set, and other beverages until 11pm. It was such a nice offer and good way to enjoy the end of the day after walking around. The staff are very nice and helpful. I definitely come back!
Both our rooms were so relaxing and comfortable, we didn't want to leave! Everything was so clean and well organized, and every detail had been thought out.
The breakfast was a huge hit with our kids, they really enjoyed all the different options. The restaurant on site was also great for dinner.
But the best part? The onsen! Everyone in our family loved it! So relaxing, and just a wonderful treat - especially the outdoor baths.
We also rented bikes from the hotel to tour around Takayama which our family enjoyed.
Their dinner is a pure kaiseki experience which includes local Hida beef. Breakfast is also traditional, served early in the morning. You can enjoy a panoramic view of the Takayama village from the entrance of the hotel. The property has an Onsen (public, open air bath) which closes around 23:00 and you can also book a massage. We stayed in a Japanese room with a cypress-wood bathtub and futon beds which were prepared during our dinner. The World Heritage village of Shirakawa-go can be easily reached by bus (50 min).
Excellent location in Takayama just on the edge of the old town area and about 15 minutes walk from train station. Spacious rooms, with basic interiors. The beds are mattresses on a raised tatami floor which gives it a nice Japanese feel. The common lounge area near reception is great, with free drinks including beer, sake and a range of teas. Didn't try the onsen. A fairly simple hotel which is nicely designed to suit its surroundings, with a Japanese vibe and in a great location.
Hotel Location: Just near Takayama Station
Hotel: New establishment (2018), very cozy and modern atmosphere. Not too pompous (like most Japanese outdated Hotel)
Room: Very comfortable, clean, spacious and quiet room (with Bath and Toilet separated !!)
Facilities: Smart concept regarding their Onsen (4 private baths available) and all other services are well designed
Service: Reception Staff always happy to help and make your stay enjoyable
It was one of our best accomodation ever. The place was cozy, clean and very beautifully decorated. It really has a ryokan spirit, but recently renovated. The attention of Tai and his family was overwhelming, taking us and picking us up to and from downtown Takayama, giving us recommendations.. they even had a nice detail to prepare us a cake to celebrate our honeymoon. The japanese breakfast that they prepared for us was amazing.
Location is the best answer here, as there's a Mcdonald's literally next to it, so sad that it's under renovation when I was there though. You can walk from here to Family Mart and 7-Eleven for convenience stores, also Takayama famous spots are just a few kilometers away in this place. There's also Geo Takayama across the hotel so for some electronics and toys enthusiast you can pay a visit there. Public bath is free as well
one of our favourite stays during our month in Japan with a family of 5.
Everyone had a real and comfortable bed (often we have to share with a kid or someone sleeps on a sofa), it was light and clean.
Nice bathroom and I love having a washing machine in the room.
Close to the station and the old town was 10-15 minutes walk from were we stayed.
I recommend visiting the onsen at the neighbouring hotel Takayama Green Hotel.
This is the first ryokan we stayed in, so it's a bit hard to judge against others, but in general it was a very enjoyable experience at an excellent price. We really enjoyed the private bathing areas and the meals (served very traditionally and eaten while sitting on tatami mats). It's out of the way, but that's sort of the point, and easily reached by bus from Takayama.
This is a beautiful traditional Japanese Ryokan. The rooms have traditional Japanese design features and are both lovely to look at and comfortable. The inn provides guests with kimonos and yukatas to wear while staying at the ryokan. The Japanese breakfasts are delicious and a work of art. The owners and staff are extremely welcoming and friendly.
Nice traditional type ryokan. Complimentary ramen for supper and good spread of buffet breakfast (inclusive in room rate). Love the private onsen and experienced the outdoor public onsen, all view of Takayama old town especially cold autumn season. The staff are polite and nice. There is complimentary coffee and tea drinks at lobby area!
The hotel has everything you need for a confortable and ncie stay in Takayama. It is very close to the JR station (like 5min walk) and the city centre. The room was a bit bigger that the "japanease standard". The onsen was also really nice. The cost/quality ratio is very very high!
A very authentic experience. You will find yourself in a traditional house with great shared spaces and most welcoming people. And for the price per night its deffinitely the best hotel we have stayed in Japan. (And we stayed also in some quite pricey Ryokans )
Great ryokan with very friendly staff. Our room had a splendid view of the Takayama and the mountains. The onsen and the food were great. The ryokan is located in a quiet part of the town with a lot of traditional houses.
Very unique ryokan style hotel set in a wonderful location. The staff was absolutely wonderful!! We enjoyed the one chance we had in Japan to book the private onsen on the top floor.
