The hotel is located literally next to the train station, there is an easy access to buses. You can reach the castle and the museums on a lovely, straightforward walk. The room was small (especially the bathroom), but more spacious than rooms in other Japanese hotels. Included all the usual appliances. The tv set had some English language channels (yay!). The room was pretty dated, would merit some refurbishment. The staff was lovely and helpful, spoke limited English. Breakfast was fabulous (big variety, both Japanese and Western options), but the huge dining space was still too small for all the guests (a lot of organized groups), so if you were coming between 7 and 8 am - you needed to wait for a table. Loved the cafe downstairs, on the ground floor.

Himeji has always been a favourite place to visit.
Himeji has always been a favourite place to visit. This is my 3rd or 4th visit. In cherry blossom season, it is nothing short of spectacular. In winter, it's not so green, but the gardens are still worth seeing and wandering through. The castle itself is worth every cent of the entry fee and one could easily spend 2 or more hours exploring all the nooks and crannies before even reaching the 6 floor castle. Climbing to the top is must, but remember you will need to take off your shoes (and the stairs are more like wide rung ladders, so hold onto the rails!
The eateries are also worthwhile visiting, with plenty of choice in the area between the station and the castle. We visited a Vietnamese restaurant at lunchtime - it was huge and totally empty apart from us, and the food was fabulous - we chose banh mi which was just as good as in its' home country.

Loved arriving on the train and as we exited the station in the evening all the Christmas lights on the wide Avenue running straight from station to the lit up Himeji Castle in the distance..just stunning. The castle is amazing and a beautiful garden alongside it. Lovely to stroll around.

Himeji castle is a must see.
Himeji castle is a must see. Extremely interesting and along with the associated park is a good 3 hour adventure. Free English speaking guides at the entrance will accompany you. Well sign posted with many displays along the route through the castle in English.

I have been here so many times.
I have been here so many times. The castle, Himeji Central Park, the aquarium.... there are so many wonderful places to visit, and at the same time, it is full of terrific shops and restaurants. I don't think there is anybody who would NOT have a good time in this pleasant little city.

The castle exceeded our expectations.
The castle exceeded our expectations. You can access the entire castle and grounds and it is more beautiful than any photo I'd seen of it. Also, the multitude of alleyways and shops is lovely, safe and fun

It is a lovely, but bustling little city.
It is a lovely, but bustling little city. The castle is within sight of just about every hotel. It is worth a day's visit. However, I would avoid it in August; it must be so hot inside, as most places probably were during the 1400s. HImeji Central Park is definitely worth a visit. There is convenient bus service, and the park is often open late on weekends. There is an aquarium, too. The city itself is loaded with old-fashioned shopping streets, closed to cars, and covered, a bonus in case you have forgotten an umbrella. It is indeed a shopping mecca. You will find everything imaginable, and near the castle, loads of old shops PLUS an open-air market that is loads of fun to browse. I am not sure whether it is open daily, so check the days/hours. Finally, there is an open, public space/park right in front of the station that makes hanging around the station area good fun. Several ice cream shops, crepe shops, loads of bread shops. The bread shop in the Hotel Nikko is particularly good, and it is a 15-second walk from the station.
Great location, walking distance from both the train station and the huge Himeji Castle. The market right by the hotel is full of interesting restaurants, shops and cafes. The room was spacious, and most importantly, the desk staff were extremely attentive, successfully managing to give me a room (on the spot) that had a nice view of the castle (and the view was awesome! both by day and night, it is truly magnificent). Bathroom was comfortable and spacious, too.
We often stay in Richmond hotels in Japan. We find that they are very clean, comfortable and offer very good value for money. The one in Himeji was no exception. It is a five minute walk from the station and walkable to the Castle. Alternatively, you can take a short bus trip from the station to the castle. They young staff are very helpful and several spoke some English. There was a variety of western and Japanese food for breakfast.
The guesthouse is a small and cozy place, very well situated.
It's about 5 minutes walk both from the Himeji Castle and from the station, with many stores, bars and conveniences all nearby.
The owner was super kind, even though my Japanese is not that good. She suggested me good places to eat and for sightseeing.
Could not recommend a better place to stay in Himeji, specially considering the price and the location!
Nice budget option for a night in Himeji. Lovely and clean little guest house with very friendly hosts. We booked out the 6 bed (3 bunks) room for my wife and 2 young boys and was perfect. If staying longer probably want something a bit bigger. Close to a local station one stop from Shinkansen station so very easy transfer coming in from Hiroshima. Short 15 minute walk to the castle which was perfect.
The hotel is a bit far away from the Himeji JR station (15 minutes walk from station and 30 minutes walk from Himeji jo). Suggest to take the shuttle bus or TAXI. The ohuro (Japanese SPA) is really amazing!! There are a lot of onsen pools you can enjoy and there is a sauna room. The front desk service is really kind and helpful.
Great location close to the station and a short walk from the castle. very friendly staff. parking for several cars (uses car lift so size limits apply). Great Japanese breakfast choice. Free ramen from 21.30-2300 every evening. roof spa (didn’t see or use though as stated only one night). Rooms a little dated but perfectly fine.
Everything was nice, I could even check the status of my laundry from the TV in my room (I do not know how common that is).
Pretty generous space for a hotel bathroom.
Located between the train stations and the castle in walking distances, nice friendly staff at the front desk, check out was easy and smooth too.
Brilliant ! The hotel is about 400m away from Himeji Castle and only 10min from the JR HIMEJI station by foot. Room is clean and the staff is super helpful. Possibility to do laundry if needed. washing machines are automated (laundry powder included) 400¥ {washing machine 300¥ + dryer 30min foe 100¥}.
Everything. Clean, modern, had all the facilities you could ask for, such as a nice lounge area with free coffee and matcha, tv by the bed, free pajamas, and excellent wifi. Situated right by the main metro station and in the middle of everything. Short walk from Himeji castle.
The location was pretty good, straight road from Himeji station exit is is located between the station and castle. The balcony had a nice view of Himeji castle too. The room is neat and clean. Staff were extremely friendly and easily approachable.
Location is close to Himeji station and lots of Izakaya’s. Very Easy walk to Himeji Castle as well whilst enjoying the sights. Rooms are a nice size and quiet. Staff helpful and friendly and was great we could store bags well before checkin.
Location was great, very convenitnet to the train station and not far from Himeji Castle and Gardens and the Museum of Literature. Breakfast was terrific. Onsen was lovely and I liked the inclusion of the cold pool.
A comfortable and convenient place for sleeping before heading to sightseeing spots, such as Himeji castle. It was also more well-equipped than I expected. I would choose OYO if I return to Himeji
The location close to the train station was perfect for what we were looking for. We selected Himeji to see the castle and cherry blossoms. This hotel was very convenient.
Great location, super close to the station and not far away from the castle. Also a lot of restaurants in the area.
Also there's a coin laundry at the hotel, which is great
Wonderful place to stay in Himeji! Very close to the train station an walking distance to the Himeji castle too. Our room was very spacious and clean with comfy beds.
