Often overlooked in favour of its neighbour, Osaka, Kobe is an absolute gem of a city. It has a multitude of attractions, from the port and harbourside parks to the wonderful Nunobiki herb garden and hillside hikes on the other side of the city, to the old foreign merchants houses in Kitano Ijinkan-gai and the Motomachi and Sannomiya entertainment and shopping areas, there's a huge amount to see and do in Kobe. We gorged ourselves on amazing food, saw historic houses, enjoyed walking through nature, enjoyed food markets and took a harbourside tour. Bakery RIKI near our accommodation in Motomachi sold the most amazing pastries and Nankin-machi (Chinatown) had a wonderful, crowded, hectic atmosphere with hundreds of stalls selling cheap, absolutely delicious food. We will definitely visit Kobe again.

The availability of the shuttle bus to Sannomiya was extremely helpful and it ran frequently that we could accomplish what we wanted. The 30th floor dining area was simply wonderful. It had a beautiful view and selection of food and drinks were great.

i travel to kobe for work regularly and usually don't do much sight seeing there; it is easy to find my way around, find restaurants and there is easy access to all sorts of places to visit in the kansai area; once we stayed at the outskirts of kobe, up the mountains, with stunning views of the harbour (private accommodation, sadly gone now) but there are some other nice places to stay in and around the city

Kobe has a long history as a port town.
Kobe has a long history as a port town. If you come to Osaka or Kyoto, you should also visit Kobe. You will feel the atmosphere and characteristics of a sophisticated city that is completely different from these two. Compared to these two cities, Kobe has wider sidewalks and more walkable areas, but the city as a whole is compact and easy to get around. If you stay in Kobe, I highly recommend a hotel with a night view of the port city.

We stayed in Kobe three days during this Japan tour - it was just enough to enjoy the city (Chinatown, the covered market streets, the port area, the 'foreigner's area', and a nice small treck along mount Rokko waterfalls and gardens. Kobe is a medium size city, not overwhelming and easy to visit by foot.
The hotel was very close to the venue I was going to see a concert at, so it was convenient. Also very close to public transportation. It is probably close to many things of interest in that area. The staff was excellent and most of the customer-facing staff I encountered was at least English/Japanese bilingual (which may be of interest to those using this site). The breakfast buffet at the restaurant on the 30th floor was very nice and had a great view. The room was very clean, no signs of wear noticed. Everything felt very fresh and new.
Very friendly and helpful staff, both at reception and in the breakfast area. The bed was very comfortable. The room was quiet. Bathroom amenities were good. I appreciated the humidifier. And not having carpet was great for a change. The breakfast was pretty good for a Japanese hotel. Very tasty. Good selection.
Asking every day whether I needed the room cleaned or towels changed was very eco. Makes sense to me.
The ‘English’ touch to the hotel was homely.
Excellent as expected. I have made it to stay at Dormy Inn whenever I am travelling to Japan with my family. Service is always good and the rooms are always clean and comfortable. The onsen is always the highlight and this time was no different.
We didn't expect the location of the hotel to be so accessible and with so much to offer and see nearby. We will definitely be staying here when we are back in Kobe.
The Japanese style room was spacious and well equipped. The check-in was super easy, and the staff were informative and friendly. The location is in the heart of Arima Onsen. Dressed in your yukata, winter jacket, and clogs (graciously supplied by the hotel), you are a few steps away from the well-known Kin no Yu Onsen and foot bath. The futons were super comfortable, too, giving you a restful nights sleep.
This Hotel, located before Shinnagata Station, was very quiet, comfortable, and cost-effective. Breakfast was served both Japanese and Western food meals. In particular, it was very good to enjoy the peaceful trip in Kobe Harbor Land, Bay Area, Nunobiki Herb Gardens, Nankinmachi Chinatown etc., and to come back to the hotel and experience the Japanese meal in Munashi for dinner.
The place was pretty quaint in an iconic part of Kobe.
The rooms were a good size compared to your average business hotel.
The breakfast was absolutely amazing - I'm talking dedicated hamburger and waffle stand, cheese fondue, and all of the usual western and Japanese offerings. It's honestly the best breakfast I've had at a hotel in Japan (and I live here).
I had a late check-in, so luckily I got an upgrade to the suite, which is really great.
I chose this hotel because the breakfast is very famous. It is indeed one of the best I've had in Japan at this price range (under 10,000JPY per night per person). It lacks the variety I was expecting, but the taste is very good.
We love the location. Staff are very helpful. The room is spacious and clean. They even provide face mask and skin care. We have stayed with these hotel chains in Hokkaido before and love the extra cares they provide. We will definitely look for the same chain for our next destination in Japan again.
Staffs are super friendly. Room is clean and cozy. There are free beverages and ice creams. Shuttle bus is convenient, and if you don't have Japanese phone card, use WhatsApp or Line to connect to the hotel. Onsen is good and easy to reserve. Use indoor onsens if you hate bugs ;p.
It was an excellent location to explore Kobe and was within 10 minutes walking distance of Motomachi and Chinatown.
We had dinner at a Teppanyaki restaurant in the hotel, staff are very friendly, the service was excellent, and of course Japanese beef was delicious :)
Absolutely wonderful host of a cute Japanese-style hotel. It was so much fun and the breakfast was fantastic! The host was a very sweet lady and she worked with me even if I didn't know very much Japanese. Highly recommend!
for the price of the hotel i was expecting less and actually it was new, clean and friendly. the room although small bathroom and limited storage space was what i have experienced before in Japan.
excellent western type hotel. encapsulates the japanese psyche around what the west is like. 'posh' in that sense. loads of people have weddings here. it's pretty corny but in a disneyworld way.
Clean, very good facility, good location, friendly staff, good scenery, yummy food nearby and at the hotel, hotel's own Japanese bath,
good price... I will come back!!
The hotel was very clean and well managed. Beautiful grounds. The room was large and spacious. The food was an interesting mix of Japanese and Chinese.
