The Lansdowne Kenmare, hotel in Kenmare

Neidin is the Irish word for Kenmare and translates to Little Nest. A Little Nest is exactly what was envisaged in 1790 when The Lansdowne first opened its door.

The team at the Lansdowne are lovely and incredibly helpful. We were badly delayed and didn't arrive to the hotel until 2am. When we requested breakfast to the room in the morning after missing the order the night before that wasn't an issue. Really beautiful hotel and you cannot get a better location in Kenmare.

This luxurious, 5-star hotel boasts an opulent spa, sumptuous rooms with cosy bathrobes, and a 12-seat cinema.

700E for an average room then asking 70E for breakfast was ridiculous for where the hotel was located.

Great little town. So many excellent restaurants and shops. Kenmare lies between the Kerry Ring and the Beara Ring and is not too far from Killarney so lots to experience. One of our favourite restaurants was the Boathouse Bistro beautiful setting and great food. On the way to Killarney stop at Mollys Gap to take a photo and make sure to visit the Avoca shop - the gift section is beautiful and the pastries are top. Grab a coffee before you head off for the day at Bean & Batch - you will not regret it.

The main street of Kenmare is quite charming with the numerous pubs with live music at dinner time. We love the Kenmare Brewershouse and the Horshoe. You don't get the huge influx of tours buses like you do at Killarney. The drive to Lady's Viewpoint is worth the harrowingly narrow roads...watch out for the sheep and one particular Goat who likes to surprise unsuspecting drivers! If you are a golfer, make sure you visit the Kenmare Golf Course. The Clubhouse is rather nice too.

Getting around Kenmare on foot is easy and there are a lot of interesting sites to visit such as the exhibit of beautiful lace made there, the history told in the visitor information center, the stone circle, and the holy well. Nearby is the Kissane Sheep Farm where we watched a sheepdog demonstration and sheep shearing - fabulous!! I would absolutely recommend visiting Kenmare!

I was trying to decide between staying in Killarney or Kenmare - I saw a comment from someone to go for Kenmare -- they were so correct! Kenmare has a couple tourist shops but otherwise is a walkable and charming little downtown with great restaurants pubs and live music. Not so touristy as Galway or Killarney, so it's a great spot for a couple nights as a base to see Ring of Kerry. If you drive the Ring clockwise, if you were in Killarney you would have a boring last stretch -- in Kenmare the last portion is from Killarney to Kenmare through the national park -- spectacular end to the day!

Heading into Kenmare after one of Patricia's amazing breakfasts was so simple. Just 5 minutes and you're in the heart of this charming village that isn't too big and isn't too small. Just park your car and everything is walkable either from a space on the street, or the town provided lot that is just one block from the shops. All parking is free, too. There are several town walks that the local tourist office can tell you about if you are seeking history, a wooded stroll, or a stop by the pier. And don't miss the sheep herding farm about 15 minutes north of town along Killarney Road in Moll's Gap. Well worth the short diversion.

The town is lovely. It's easy to explore on foot. The food is great, the people are wonderful and the music is not to be missed. We enjoyed a fun evening in a pub with live music, cold beverages and some new friends. Wish we had stayed a day longer!

Location was fabulous as was the whole west of Ireland. The property was spacious and well equipped. Literally 7 mins drive from the centre of Kenmare which is a lively character town. The host, Jer, made himself available if required and also owned the excellent O'Donabhains pub in Kenmare.
