SEE PHOTOS DO not stay here it is not 4 star. The minute you walk in you get a Horrible smell of Mould and damp and old furniture its was so bad The bathroom was full of mould it was shocking The fixtures were filthy and broken The floors and wood are just manky How they can charge 230 a night for this is robbery. It was so bad I would not even use the shower. The walls are paper thin And you hear Everything from other rooms. The cleaners were outside our door at 8.30am chatting banging wardrobes and hoovering so loud Save yourself a disappointing trip avoid here a wasted night away for new parents so disappointing

Woodford Dolmen Hotel Carlow, hotel in Castlecomer

Nestled against the banks of the River Barrow and surrounded by luscious green grounds, the 4-star Woodford Dolmen Hotel Carlow is located just outside Carlow.

Friendly & helpful staff on reception & housekeepers. Beautiful rooms & bathrooms. Hotel is spotless. I ordered room service for breakfast (I’m Coeliac so I nervously only ordered toast) such a friendly waiter arrived and went through each dish he had brought confirming they were all gluten free, he brought me fruit, GF cornflakes, GF toast and a full GF fry- AMAZING! So reassuring to be handed the food and told it’s gluten free and so thrilled to have so many options. So many hotels lack this, so thank you so much!

The Abbeyleix Manor Hotel, hotel in Castlecomer

The 3-star Abbeyleix Manor Hotel offers a relaxing and ideal base to explore the hidden beauties of County Laois and the Midlands of Ireland.

The room was big and beautiful. The location was ideal for shopping in portlaoise and kilkenny. The staff were a pleasure to deal with, especially when one of our meals was not to a nice standard. They dealt with it very professionally.

Beds extremely comfortable staff friendly and accomadating.

Beds extremely comfortable staff friendly and accomadating. Beautifully renovated quant hotel. Beautiful stroll from the hotel to the discovery park and shops in the town. Better planning of room allocation, especially if travelling with a young family and a function on in the ballroom. More attention to cleanliness off rooms....hoovering of floors especially under beds. Emptying and cleaning of coffee machines all surfaces dusted and cleaned down. Evidence of any previous resident removed.

    Overrated and overpriced.

Overrated and overpriced. View from our room was dirty bin bags. No effort to make a table for two available for high paying residents in the BAR alone, nevermind the restaurant upstairs. Pounding music vibrated into our room into the small hours, definitley wouldn't recommend if you have kids. Customer service in bar and reception very poor, no apology, excuses made, was made feel like I was wrong for even mentioning the music on checking out.

Great location for exploring the South East of Ireland.

Great location for exploring the South East of Ireland. Away from the bustle of the larger towns and Cities but easy to reach the major routes. We were visiting family in the area so it was perfect for us. Our hotel the Avalon provided lovely evening meals but very little in the way of other restaurants. Also has a lively bar at the weekend.
