The beds were nice. The morning after the people at reception were really nice and the bellboy opened and closed the door for me. They make a nice pandan latte coffee in the adjacent coffeeplace near the reception.

The food in Medan is superb, although some rumah makan did not really practice hygiene. Generally, it was easy to find non-halal and halal restaurants. Jong Ah Fie Mansion is awesome. Im impressed that a lot of the things there are well preserved. Istana Maimoon is okay for buying handcrafts. The Graha Bunda Maria Annai Velangkanni church is very unique too. However, I must admit that Lake Toba is the main highlight of my visit there. The lake is super beautiful and I really enjoy my stay and time at Lake Toba - Samosir, Karo, Berastagi etc...will definitely recommend travellers who enjoy immersing themselves in peaceful nature to visit Lake Toba. :) Seriously, the sunrise and sunset are mind blowing.

Medan, indeed all of Sumatra is much cleaner than Java.
Medan, indeed all of Sumatra is much cleaner than Java. A lot more pride taken civically. Most folk uses Medan as their entry point to Toba. I just wished I'd spent more time in Medan first. Lovely place.

Medan is a great arrival and exit city for access to Sumatra
There is a good number of attractions for a day tour of the city of Medan itself and I would recommend this.
Aside from this is it best to stay in the places you are visiting.
Unlike what the internet may suggest you definitely cannot do a day tour to Lake Toba from Medan in one day unless you want to spend anywhere from 10 to 17 hours in a car. I do not recommend... at all.
A sunrise hike of Mount Sibayak from Medan is doable but will be very tiring and I would recommend staying in Berastagi instead.

Medan is a humid place. There are little trees in the city. Food is plentiful and tasty. However, due to drainage problem, it has lots of mosquitoes flying around. One can easily be bitten by them. So, always carry a bottle of insect spray.

I was only there overnight, arriving early evening by air and travelling on the next day. My hotel was perfectly located for airport train access. The city is huge and sprawling, can't really judge based on such a limited stay. I did have a very bad experience at the Pinang Baris bus station the day I was leaving. No one else around, just a group of very unfriendly men, waiting to overcharge you. I knew my trip to Bukit Lamang should be around 30,000...they quoted me 150,000, we settled on 100,000. I just wanted to get where I was going but they were very unpleasant. A lot of money was changing hands as I got in the battered old van...they think they've really pulled something over on you. It just confirmed in my mind that I won't be back in Medan or if I am...I will use any mode of transport but them. Crooks.
If you want to have a ‘whow’ experience and you need to go to Medan: this is it! Small scale hotel with maximum service exceeding your expectations. Rooms are perfect clean and neat. Restaurant staff treats you as king. And they cab improvise: they can arrange last minute private tours to the volcano’s, historical buildings sightseeing, jungle track walking experience. This hotel has all the connections and make it happen.
My son and I love almost everything in this hotel. We really enjoyed our stay. The friendly and courteous staffs made our stay so memorable. Thanks to Pak Rio, Pak Hotlan and Pak Ari. Breakfast buffet was wonderful. We would definitely return to this hotel when we visit the country in the future. The only suggestion we would make is to clearly assign the smoking and non-smoking area during breakfast time/cafe.
The best thing of the guest house is the host Zack
He is very helpful and kind
We left very soon the place to go to airport and we did not realize that the payment was on site
I tried to pay him but he just did not accept!
Thank you Zack!!!
The place is 20 minutes far-away to airport and it’s perfect to do a night there
close to it you can found local restaurants, supermarkets and all type of shops
Staying around Kualanamu is not optimal, but if it can't be helped, My Studio is a good option. It is large, at the top of a sister hotel in a complex of hotels. The beds are clean and in private cubicles. The staff was kind, they let me check in early. Food in the morning. 50,000 to the airport (transport is a ripoff all around KNO, there is definitely a taxi mafia mindset). Good AC!
It was really clean, friendly staff that spoke English, really good Internet connection. A really good restaurant right across the street that serve beer called the Tip top. I’m a vegan so the breakfast at the hotel while there was a lot of stuff they didn’t serve a lot of fruit or things that I could eat so we had breakfast at tiptop every day.
Clean room, easy to walk from the trainstation, great beds and shower. Enough streetfood and restaurants close by. Alltough the hotel was next to a busy road, we had a good sleep with window shut and airco on. We could leave our backs behind when we arrived a few hours before check-in time.
Very good value for money in the centre of Medan.
Best option when arriving on Sumatra: just outside of the city, the guest house brings rest, peace, quietness and lots of hospitality. The owner and team are tremendous supportive in helping on travels, tours and as well food and any other needs like SIM cards.
Terima Kasih🙏
The location is close to almost all landmarks in Medan, so you could walk around in the city. The staffs are kind enough to grant my request to be assigned to a higher floor with city view, but later I regret that decision a bit due to traffic noise.
very nice and super comfy hotel.. this is not my first time stay in this hotel.. even it was long ago that i stayed in this hotel, the facilities and the room deco and of course the bed for sure still comfortable..
Good hotel when you have an early flight from Medan airport. The room is quite small. 10sqm, including the bathroom. The airport shuttle costs 25k per person.
