Sun Breeze Hotel, hotel in El Remate

Situated in El Remate, 34 km from Tikal National Park, Sun Breeze Hotel features accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and a terrace.

We stayed one out of the planned three nights at Sun Breeze, because we discovered bed bugs after the first night. The day after our first night, we discovered some weird bites in a line, consistent with bed bug bites. We saw some weird marks and remains on the mattress and requested to change rooms. In the new room we checked the bed thoroughly and found a dead bed bug. The mattress was also not clean. We told the owner and he did not care, and told us we could leave if we wanted. When we notified the hotel management about bed bugs, we expected that this would cause a response, or action to fumigate the room. However, the owner didn’t even get out of the couch he was on, and laughed us out of the hotel. Very unprofessional behavior, and it would not surprise me if this grows in to a larger infestation because it is not being handled. Petén and El Remate are buggy and there were some cockroaches and normal bugs in the room - while this is not great, it is to be expected in the “jungle”. However bed bugs are completely unacceptable. Do not stay here! You will have to fumigate all your things to prevent taking the bugs home.

Clean, comfortable, very peaceful, staff were lovely, very safe, food and service were brilliant. The gentleman cooked us beautiful fresh soups and salads when we arrived. We also stayed at Alice's guesthouse for a few nights, which was fully booked but this place was empty, we don't know why!! Both are beautiful places but this is cheaper and the rooms are bigger and cooler, book here!! They deserve the business, Alices is v good too tho

Whole the place is made with lots of care of the detailes and love, Art and supreme Quality. I had the cheapest room and still the matterece was great quality and so comfortable. The bathroom is like from a fairy tale, so speciouse and magical. No plastic around and free drinking water added lots of value too. I wish sooo much to be back on day in Alice Guesthouse and stay longer...

Very nice, tranquil location next to the lake and the forest. The staff is friendly and helpful, we could even rent a motorcycle. Tikal is not far away and it's much less crowded than Flores.

Much more relaxing here than Flores or Santa Elena.

Much more relaxing here than Flores or Santa Elena. You can easily get the colectivo for 25 QTZ to flores, and it drops you back in centre of El Remate. Sometimes they even go to your hostel along the main road if you ask nicely. A few restaurants and shops but the highlight is definitely the views of the lake, sunset over the water, sitting on the dock!

El Remate is a small relaxed village near Flores but with a very different vibe. The lake is amazing to swim in and to be around and the howler monkeys place in the trees above the streets. Beautiful hidden location

    Amazing experience!

Amazing experience! Real nature immersive experience but only a half hour away from town. Definitely consider all options (and reviews!!) when choosing accommodation.. the range is large and a little bit of a splurge goes a loooong way. The lake is peaceful and truly picture perfect, well worth the trip for sunrise and sunset alone. Pick a place with kayaks/paddleboards included!

I liked the comidors tipico. Authentic local food. Everything is within walking distance. Small town. The sunsets and stargazing here are top notch. I would avoid Tienda El Remate. The guy charged me more for the same product 3 days in a row. When I told him the price was higher than the day before, he shrugged me off and walked away. There are plenty of other tiendas in town. Great location for visiting Tikal- only about a 40 minute shuttle. If you plan to do a sunrise tour of Tikal, you should consider getting your ticket at a Banrural before arriving here.

El Remate is a small lake side town.

El Remate is a small lake side town. We thought it was perfect on our trip to Tikal. After visiting the ruins you can enjoy the view on the lake or jump in and cool off. in comparison to Flores it is not very touristy and if you visit a restaurant you will be treated as a friend. It is for sure a fun place to relax.

Santiago is a fantastic host who knows a lot about the area and really takes time for his guests. The staff is super helpful and kind. The room was really comfortable and big. The location in the garden of the hotel is brilliant and offers a lot of privacy. In addition, it is often possible to observe and listen to the animals crossing the garden. We had an amazing time!
