I liked:
I liked:
The traditional house architecture that has been somehow preserved and gives a unique character to the entire village.
The streams and creeks inside and around the village.
The main square with the beautiful large platanus-sycamore trees.
The views of the Pagasitikos bay from the village.
The view of the thickly wooded forests of chestnuts and walnuts.
Portaria and Makrynitsa and Pelion in general are close to what my idea of paradise is!

I really do not understand why people are going there.
I really do not understand why people are going there.
It is a very small village on the top of a mountain near Volos.Ok, the view is very nice especially during night, but You need to climb the mounting by car and you need 30-40 minutes for 9 km.When you arrive there, you will find many hotels, 8-10 restaurants, 3-4 souvenir shop, one petrol station, one pharmacy and nothing else.

Portaria is a really nice place that combines traditional restaurants with friendly people and a breath taking scenery in the mountains with a panoramic view of Volos. The trail of Centaurs is a must,as well as tasting the traditional sweets of the women's co-op.

All villages from Pelion are extremely interesting and with a local air. The view is just unbelievable. A great rustic experience which a real urban, busy traveler must have. The food, the nature, the panorama, every and each place are just mind blowing. Pelion is not the tourist oriented place, but this makes it even more desirable. So, if you choose Greece and you might need some peace of soul, this is the place.

We stayed at gastronomy hotel Kritsa in front of a 1000 years old Plane tree. The hotel shares a big yard together with 2-3 other small hotels covered by huge Plane trees. It's a magnificent place .
Venus Guesthouse was as you see in the photos fully equipped and provided everything to make our stay comfortable. It was very clean and organized, located 2 minutes from the main square of Portaria which made it very easy to walk and not use the car. The best part of our stay was the the friendly hosts who welcomed us and gave us all the useful information about the area and also they would respond quickly if we needed something. I would definitely visit again!
The hotel was situated above the restaurant, which by itself is a hot destination in the culinary scene of Portaria (or even Pelion). The rooms were cosy, not large, but ample and warm, giving a pleasant sleep experience. The breakfast, being an extension of the restaurant, was superb and with many options, changed every day. Additionally, having the restaurant at our feet, was an added bonus!
Very good location, right in the central square of Portaria, full of flowers, under secular trees
the french balcony was facing the square and flowers
very nice hosts
two bedroom apartment, each room with its own bathroom, tipical hotel room
very clean, very quiet, all amnesties
good wifi
very good breakfast with freshly cooked traditional cakes
parking lot 20 m away
Everything was first rate at this inn, but what really sets it apart is the wonderful host, Katerina, and her beautiful daughter, Violeta. Probably the most welcoming host in our 21/2 months in Greece, she also was right there for us during a potentially serious medical emergency of my wife. Don’t stay anywhere else and be sure to check out her beautiful handicrafts!
New hotel, located at the heart of the village yet quiet and laid back environment. From the garden to the room everything was clean and tidy. Room was spacious with great mountain view, cable TV, free WiFi. Staff was polite and helpful. Highly recommended
Breakfast buffet had plenty of options and fresh food.
Excellent location, near the village centre, 15 minutes from Volos. Traditional hotel, with good parking. The staff was obviously overworked and unhappy, but they were overall helpful and polite (looming over the breakfast plates to collect them should be avoided, but I suspect this is management policy).
Portaria village is a very nice place. However the place of despotiko is not good as there's only one narrow path with stones and holes and to get to the parking is difficult. Breakfast was good but the room had no sound insulation and we were hearing steps from the floor above all night.
Beautiful house with old-fashioned Greek decoration. It is perfect to explore Portaria and the other towns in Pelion. In addition the room was very clean. The hosts are friendly and we felt very welcomed during our stay.
Perfect location for travelers on the Pelion peninsula, very clean, excellent breakfast, clean pool, convenient parking and courteous staff that is ready to help with any question. Definitely full value for money.
Everything was perfect - the location, parking area (large parking lot), friendly staff and amazing breakfast (10/10). If I’m visiting the area again, will definitely stay at this hotel.
Great place to stay when you are visting the north of Pelion. Very relaxing place, lovely and homemade breakfast while enjoying great views. Extremely friendly and helpful staff.
Very Nice hotel with a very comfortable room. Nice bathroom. A good central location for visiting Portaria and Makrinitsa. You need a car, but it's a short, easy drive.
Clean and cosy appartment
Very well designed and comfortable
