Kalami itself is such a small place that you could drive...
Kalami itself is such a small place that you could drive right through without even realising it (blink and you'd miss it!). However,it's an excellent place for a stop-over from Chania Airport, and the bigger picturesque village of Kalives with its numerous tavernas and beautiful sandy beach are only 5 minutes' drive away. We only stayed in Kalami for 2 nights, once at the beginning of our holiday before we drove to Eastern Crete, and once again on our way back, so we didn't really have time to explore. If there were any shops there, we didn't find them, just 2 tavernas. Kalami is set off the main National Highway and is on the busy main route into Kalives. Our accommodation,
'Olympic View' was quite high above the road so there was no noise from traffic and gave us a fantastic view across the bay.
