The no.7 York Park and Ride bus stops right outside the hotel; a bonus, as I had expected to have to drive to the nearest Park and Ride location. The receptionist told me this, and gave me a useful printed timetable/map.

Excellent location for sightseeing in York with very friendly and helpful staff. We ordered room service on our first night and the service was very quick. The room was clean and well-presented with a small but functional bathroom. I’d also requested a bathtub which we were given.

Although abounding in reminders of the past, York is very much a city for the here and now, with excellent shops, bars and restaurants, many along the River Ouse. Surrounding it are the medieval city walls – the longest and best preserved in England – and many of the gates that once allowed access to the city.
Walk the walls for wonderful views towards the city and towering York Minster. Standing proud on a hill, this cavernous church is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the 2nd highest position in the Church of England.
A little south is The Shambles, a narrow street with medieval buildings that now house quaint shops. Going further back in time is the Jorvik Centre, a fascinating museum showcasing the city’s Viking remains. You can even have a go at archaeology yourself at the DIG excavation pits, with replica finds from York’s Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian eras.
Other York attractions include the National Railway Museum, home to the Flying Scotsman and Mallard trains. Around 30 minutes’ drive away is Castle Howard, a stately home with over 1000 acres of grounds.
Leeds-Bradford Airport is the nearest airport, and there is a great range of hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in York and the outskirts available on Booking.com.

Its a place with full of history and amazing sculptures and quiet city during weeks and busy during weekends. Best to take a trip of a mix like Thursday to Sunday. After leaving the city we feel like to go and visit one more time as we left something behind.

We stayed in York for 3 nights which is just right to view the city. A visit to York Minster is a must and do get a guide as the cathedral is steeped in history. Half of the stained glass windows in the UK are in York. For good pub food visit the historic Three Tuns (first licenced in 1782) - friendly, nice ambience and yummy Yorkshire Pudding. For those inclined, go round the city on the ‘Cat Hunt trail’ and find the cat statues scattered across the city!! Walks along the river and in the parks are pleasant too.

Lots of historic buildings and interesting history.
Lots of historic buildings and interesting history. Many pedestrianised areas full of lovely old streets to explore such as The Shambles. Loads of great restaurants and wonderful pubs! Excellent shops. York Minster and walking the city walls are obvious highlights. The Museum Gardens and park and the river are also beautiful. Very friendly locals. We had a highly enjoyable stay and would definitely return.

I've been to York before.
I've been to York before. I only stayed this time as I wanted to visit Castle Howard and was unable to within a day due to their limited opening times. I was glad I was leaving on Saturday though as the hen parties were arriving. How to put someone off a place in one go.

I just loved all the stuff you can do. Most of the things I did were history based, but the chocolate tour from the York Cocoa Works was very informative and just a bit different.
Not sure the Van Gogh Experience was really worth it, though it was interesting as a small museum.
I used a York Pass which made it significantly cheaper to do things and also meant that I didn't need to think about costs of the activities while I was there. It also meant that I was able to squeeze in extra stuff when I had the time.

Lots to do in this vibrant City, something for everyone and good transport links if you want to go further afield. If you're calorie counting don't step into a bakery as the choice of freshly baked buns and cakes is fabulous. I recommend you try a curd tart and a blondie!
Comfortable, spacey apartment, very quiet even though York was extremely busy. Secure gated area & controlled entry to the flats. Practically across the road from the train station & only a short walk from the main city centre. Easy to follow instructions on how to find the key box & directions to the flats. Great value for money compared to what hotels are charging. It's great to have a whole apartment rather than being stuck in a single hotel room, especially when it's for more than 1 night.
The hotel was lovely we went for my daughters hen party there was 14 of us. The hotel was situated in a lovely area of York a short taxi ride into the city centre. The pub next door the grey mare was very helpful with taxi numbers and where to go while we were staying there. Only 1 complaint there wasn’t enough bedding the sofa bed didn’t have a duvet and when one of the girls rang they said they couldn’t bring one until the office opened on Monday and we we’re checking out on the Sunday.
Gorgeous, clean and cozy, this hotel is probably the best place in York.
The staff is excellent, certainly very well trained and very kind. Their teamwork was very good.
Rooms are gorgeous. We went for the cheapest and it was already large and beautiful.
The food at The Rose restaurant was delicious and prices for that quality are reasonable.
Take me back please.
We had a very nice bright room. It was warm and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was very good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel has lovely gardens to the front. Lots of outdoor seating for good weather. A very good bar and lounges. A bus runs into York from the main road 2 mins walk from hotel. Also easily walkable into York centre.
The location suited us for convenience. I have slight mobility issues so a hotel close to the city centre was the key factor booking this hotel. The room was fine and breakfast offered plenty of choice. The late night bar was welcome. All staff were friendly and professional. We will certainly stay in this hotel again when we visit York.
We really enjoyed our time at York, and staying at the Galtres Hotel was so handy to everything we wanted to do during our two days there. Our room was so nice, and the clawfoot tub was fun to use. We ate breakfast there two mornings and had dinner there our second night. All of the food was excellent! The staff were all very nice to us!
Good location, plenty of buses opposite Hotel, to get into York centre, train station 15 minutes walk away and lovely clean room, pure white soft towels, couldn't fault anything and breakfast was delicious! Lots of choices!! Had a double room on ground floor and would definitely book again!
York Aparthotel locates at a more quiet area of York but it’s still very center. We got a duplex with big kitchen and sofa. We cook a few meals there and it got everything we need for a proper family meal. The bed is comfy. The bathroom is clean with strong hot shower.
Was given free upgrade to ensuite room, the room was very comfortable, hot water for shower on tap in bathroom, room well furnished and modern in look and would not look out of place in more expensive hotel. And within walking distance of York City Centre win win!
The hotel is lovely, my room was clean and comfortable, and the host was really friendly. The location is good, just about 10 minutes from the gorgeous city centre of York. I enjoyed the stay very much, and I am sad that I could not afford to stay longer.
Gorgeous historical hotel with an excellent location. Super quick walk to York Minster. Excellent breakfast. Very helpful, friendly staff. We had a family suite in the basement - the Bunker Room. It was really unique and fun, quite cozy and comfy too!
The breakfast was well presented and served by pleasant waitresses/waiters in short service time.
The location of the Hotel, right next to York's Grand Hotel could not have been better situated for access to the City Centre.
Staff were very accommodating, welcoming and super super helpful.
Our room was lovely - lots of character - and the location of the hotel was just fantastic. Exactly what we wanted for our time in York !
We had a very comfortable room at the front of the hotel looking out to York Minster. Breakfast was served in a very pleasant dining area with a very good selection of food served by very helpful staff.
Previously we had stayed at Hampton by Hilton in Bath, which was excellent.
The York hotel had similar facilities and was in a good city centre location.
Perfect hotel for a few nights away in York. Near the city centre and shops. Comfortable, clean room. I would highly recommend staying here. Will be back
