The North Hill Hotel, hotel in Wivenhoe

Colchester’s North Hill Hotel provides luxurious bed and breakfast in Britain’s oldest town.

The location was excellent, being just a few minutes' walk from the High Street and local buses. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. We had 2 evening meals at the hotel restaurant ( The Green Room) and they were outstanding, particularly the locally caught fresh fish.

Wivenhoe House Hotel, hotel in Wivenhoe

Set in the historic grounds of Wivenhoe Park, this 18th-century house is next to the University of Essex campus.

The room was very comfortable. The coffee in the room was a bit strong. The only other thing I would say is that it’s a bit daft only being able to switch off both bedside lamps and not only one at a time.

Aspire 860, hotel in Wivenhoe

Situated in Colchester, Essex region, Aspire 860 is located 2 km from Colchester Castle.

This was not a Hotel - That description is untruthful. It is a set of self catering rooms. There was no signage for the premises or clue to entry - I spent 20minutes searching for the location and only gained entry after making a telephone call. I was guided down an alley and to a set of raw masonry steps to a door at first floor level with an electronic entry that the person I was on the phone to helped me gain entry. The building is on a busy and noisy roundabout. It was part painted externally. When I opened the window to get fresh air, I was overlooking the roundabout that was very loud and constant. There were smells arising from a fast food restaurant beneath. The curtains to 3 sets of windows were unable to keep out the street lights. The television did not work. I could say more, but suffice to say the room was poorly decorated and the furnishings and fittings were from an era more reminiscent of the 1970’s. After about 20 minutes, I left and went to a Premier Inn (clean, fresh, restful and a delight!) - this was the same price. I wished I had know of it before making a booking for this place. The profile of these premises and their description on your web site were a misrepresentation boarding on far worse. Frankly, I felt I had been scammed!
