    Lovely, olde worldy place!

Lovely, olde worldy place! Would recommend travelling in to the city by using the bus park and ride, just £3 to park all day with return tickets into the centre and the cathedral, main streets, park, mill and shops/restaurants etc are all within a short stroll. Winchester cathedral is beautiful and the volunteers are knowledgeable and very pleasant to talk to. The main pedestrian area is full of shops with a street market Thursday, Friday and Saturday. You really get a feel of what it might have been in mediaeval times. Winchester railway station is a throw back to times gone. Lovely! The college buildings are imposing and the statue of king Alfred overlooks the whole main square area. Interesting, historic, relaxing! BTW try the fish and chips in Shoal!!

A very attractive city that is a good size to explore on foot. The Cathedral is fascinating and well worth a visit, as are the Great Hall and Westgate Museum (joint ticket). There is good shopping with a Thursday market on the High Street, and some good eating places and cafes. St Cross Hospital and Church, south of the city, are also well worth a visit - the original purpose of our visit was to go to a concert in the Lunchtime Series here - very well attended.

Booked so we could enjoy an overnight theatre trip. Central. Easy to find. Had to park 5 mins walk away from Hotel . A Wedding Reception was being hosted on the Saturday night, which was quite loud.

First visit and was not disappointed.

First visit and was not disappointed. Cathedral is amazing, we went to specifically to see the Bone Chests! Lovely artisan market to browse. Watermill very interesting to look around and great walk along the river. Plenty of places to eat/drink. Park and Ride available from different locations and a bargain!

A medieval capital city, still struggling with traffic despite the M3 passing by and one of the best Park&Ride networks anywhere. Steeped in history and well worth a long weekend at least. One hour from Lobdon Waterloo by fast electric train.

    Visiting the Cathedral was great.

Visiting the Cathedral was great. Winchester was easy to get around but not too disabled friendly in many of the restaurant which required you to access up stairs so we had to eat outside when this was available such as at Old Vines. Strange shopping centre as polarised either very expensive or the more inexpensive end with very little middle ground.

This was the perfect location for a trip away at Winchester. The hotel is within walking distance of the main attractions and only 5 minutes walk away from the Cathedral. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Winchester Royal Hotel. It was also close to the train station which was essential as I did not have a car. The staff were friendly, allowing me to leave my bag at reception before check in time and after checking out on my final day (as my train wasn't until after noon). The breakfast buffet was also good each morning.

This is a great hotel for easy access into Winchester, the rooms have everything you need, excellent bed and bedding, shower is amazing with good pressure. Complimentary tea, pod coffee machine coffee, biscuits an hot chocolate. The only thing I wonder is why the bathrooms do not close from the outside. Staff are friendly and professional and nothing is to much trouble. When my dog stays with me here they will provide, dog bed, bowls, treats and even a ball! Excellent hotel that I highly recommend.

We use this hotel regularly. There is a car park outside, which is an absolute god send compared to other Winchester hotels. The rooms are large, and there are windows you can open so they aren't claustrophobic. Overall, having stayed in all main Winchester hotels, this is the best option.

The flat was clean, comfortable, very nicely presented, secure and in a great location for the centre of Winchester. Really enjoyed our stay and would book no.2 The Old School House again. We agreed much nicer than staying in a hotel and good value for money.
