The Palace Hotel Buxton & Spa, hotel in Taxal

Situated at the centre of Buxton, The Palace Hotel Buxton & Spa offers a swimming pool and beauty salon. This grand Victorian hotel is about 300 metres from the Buxton Train Station.

Lovely sized room. Nice and spacious. Great to have robe and slippers provided plus complimentary water. Plenty of parking. Very convenient for the theatre and restaurants. We had heard some rather negative opinions about the hotel and were very pleasantly surprised to find such high standards.

The Shady Oak B&B, hotel in Taxal

Set in Highpeak Junction, 8.8 km from Buxton Opera House, The Shady Oak B&B offers accommodation with a restaurant, free private parking and a bar.

What more could we ask for at the price that is being charged for a bank holiday weekend?! Dog friendly? Yes. Welcoming and friendly owners and staff. Yes! Great food. Even bigger yes! (You must have the mixed grill if it is on!) We took our Husky X (Juke) and could not fault our stay. Yes there are a few issues here and there, but none that affect your stay in the slightest (if you have realistic expectations of an aged building - yes, the stairs creak; yes, the water takes time to heat up, but i'm sure we all have bigger stresses in life)! You get what you pay for and more at The Shady Oak; just remember, you're not staying at the Ritz! If you have an issue, let them know, they'll sort it so you don't have to. We will be back!
