The Old Ferry Inn, hotel in Talland

Set on the banks of the Fowey River Estuary in Bodinnick, The Old Ferry Inn has provided food and cosy accommodation for over 400 years. It features a panoramic restaurant and traditional Cornish pub....

We could not find the old Ferry. The reason being it was not only totally covered in scaffolding on the two sides visible from the road but it was also covered in workman. The car park was a building site which we could not enter as it had the builders vehicle in it. It is impossible to park within half a mile of the property unless you cross the Stuart by ferry and leave your car there. It was impossible to park to unload the car plus our two dogs. The builders told us the owner or anyone else was not there. It turns out the Inn doesn’t open until 3pm. We were never told of the scaffolding or works which included stripping part of the roof to one side of the room we should have been staying in which also had scaffolding right up to it. We did the only thing we could do and crossed the estuary and looked for another hotel. It was almost 3 pm and by a miracle saw the sign for The Fowey Hall Hotel. They’re dog friendly and had availability. This is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. It is immaculate inside and out with the most charming staff

The photo of the hotel looks like it's ground level but it's actually about 40feet above the road my wife is disabled an had difficulty going up the ramp an steps. Also on arrival room was not ready when we got to the room there was no toilet rolls we ended up buying are own before receiving them from hotel or towels which we got after 6 hours as no one on reception or answering the phone. The had not been hoovered an still hadn't after 5 days there was 1.cup 2 saucers an 2 teabags which untill the day before we left when 4 little sachets of milk appeared. I obtained a tea spoon an cup my self and had bought are own coffee an milk after 2 days of waiting. No sheets on bed mattress protector had stains on it an dirt in 2 corners the bed was made daily nothing had changed by the time we left bath room was freezing no heating in there. Breakfast - no spoon or fork or knife or no cup breakfast it self was very nice are first holiday for years and very disappointed would not stay there again. We hope are next holiday booked through you is much better. The bed was surpose too be king-size it was 2 singles put together and bedding towels left on landing outside are door for 3 days Mr Ronald Chappell.

It was a last minute booking for one night based on location so we were delighted to find the hotel met our every requirement: huge, comfortable, warm bed, coffee machine and pods, fresh milk, illuminated magnifying make-up mirror, fluffy bath robes and slippers to name a few. The decor was amusingly quirky and colourful. The food delicious and well presented. The choice of flavoured gins and vodka in the bar was mind-blowing. We will definitely return and recommended it to friends.

The Talland Bay Hotel was a superb addition to the hotels we had already stayed at during our trip around Cornwall & Devon. The views from the hotel are quite special and for the romantics this hotel meets the brief. We ate in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast to which to food was excellent in all ways. The staff are very attentive and they made us feel very welcome.

The location was perfect and the views stunning. There was plenty of parking and although EV charging very expensive it works well. The room was quirky and brought a smile to our faces. Every room is decorated differently. Staff were very helpful and loved to chat and tell you about the hotel and surrounding area. Breakfast was plentiful.
